Though of course I suspect it’ll mostly cover the races and characters from Azeroth we know about.

It is a made up word, their point is that it’s ‘misused’. Very different. (All words are made up lol)

They talked about this in the introduction to the Shadowlands.
Basically this place is the after lire for the entire WoW universe, not just our little world, and it predates the creation of the Titans. So it can cover races and beings we have never actually seen even from different time lines.
Agreed! Which is why pointing out homophobia is made up serves no purpose at all.
