Ok listen. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about how “LFR is bad” or “we really need LFD” where people keep using terms wrong and I think there needs to be some clarification here so that everyone can be on the same page in the first place before we start arguing about it.
What is LFR?
LFR = Looking For Raid. It’s the difficulty below normal in retail and is a system that you use to queue into specific wings of raids. The system was added in Cataclysm’s patch 4.3. It has nothing to do with Wrath in any way shape or form.
What is LFD?
LFD = Looking For Dungeon. This system was added in the original patch 3.3.0 at the end of Wrath. This is the tool in retail that you use to queue for normal and heroic dungeons. When the queue pops, it teleports you to the dungeon, you do the dungeon with the group it put you in, and then you get teleported back to where you were in the world.
What is Raid Finder?
Raid Finder and LFR are two names for the same thing.
What is Dungeon Finder?
Dungeon Finder and LFD are two names for the same thing.
With that out of the way, lets get the arguments started.
What we absolutely do not want in classic is LFR. Raid finder is what killed the social aspect of the game. Not dungeon finder. Raid finder completely removed the need to be in a guild to do end game content and finish the storylines. Being in a guild is where 95% of wows social interaction is. 4% is trade chat. and the other 1% is the people that actually socialize in dungeon groups outside of explaining mistakes and mechanics.
In contrast to raids that you run one time every week, dungeons are something that you spam multiple times every single day. I will gladly walk to the raid once or twice a week, but dungeons?? I don’t wanna walk to the dungeon every single time I wanna do a normal. Its such a huge waste of time just to do what is otherwise trivial content, especially while leveling. And I don’t even wanna walk to heroics tbh. It’s just too frequent of an activity.
And the argument that dungeon finder kills the social aspect of dungeons or promotes toxicity is just so bogus and reaching… What social aspect are you talking about? The 1% i mentioned before? Because those people will talk whether there’s dungeon finder or not. They just like to socialize. Or are you talking about the social aspect of spamming chat channels with “lf range dps need all”?? Because that’s definitely not a social experience. If you’re a warrior you might get asked if you tank, but lets be real here, thats about it. There is barely a social experience as it is and its not going to get diminished, let alone killed, by being able to queue with randos and teleport to the dungeon.
People who want to talk in dungeons will always talk in dungeons regardless of how they got inside.
Never ever implement raid finder, but do implement dungeon finder.
