LFG Queueing as a different role

This is the second time this week I’ve had someone queue as tank or healer and then play as dps. Can’t kick them because there’s a timer on how long before you can vote-kick them. How is this acceptable?

Even when they drastically out-gear the dungeon, there are problems:

  • If they queue as tank, then there’s aggro issues and sometimes survivability problems, especially if the healer is poorly geared.
  • If they queue as healer, then there’s a huge risk that other poorly geared players will die. It also irritates the tank if they run ahead and pull more cause the tank is ‘going too slow’.

My thought is that Blizz should write some code to enforce role compliance, such as automatically switching these players to a tank or healer spec if they aren’t already in them and not allowing it to be changed mid-dungeon.

Do you think that this is acceptable behavior? If so, why?

EDIT: I don’t play classic, and I don’t know why it chose my one classic character for this post.

Honestly, queued content is so easy at this point it doesn’t really matter to me.

The wipes are few and far between, and I’ll take the carry when it comes

Are they new players that don’t understand the roles?
There was someone on here not that long ago that didn’t understand why they couldn’t join groups as a holy priest to DPS. They liked the rotation better.
Sounds silly but some of us forget how much there is to learn about the game.

Do you say anything or just immediately try to vote kick?

Sometimes I que for all roles available and then totally blank out on which role the que popped for. Generally I’ll figure it out and swap (more easily done in a dungeon setting), but I cannot be the only one who has A Moment.

Open role is good. Dungeons don’t need a healer at recommended ilvl until M+5 or so. Don’t need a tank until M+2. 5 DPS dungeon finder groups are really great. If you’re queueing up in ilvl 114 gear and dying every time you step on something, that doesn’t really improve with a push comp. It is trying to teach you to move out of stuff.

They did actually implement this for a short time during WoD…

It’s weird since BGs do this already that it wouldn’t work in dungeons/LFR too.

This part is more problematic because you might want to switch into/out of a support role if someone drops or is struggling

It does it now as well. Though maybe not if you queue multirole, idk. It always switched me to healer though.

edit: doesn’t do it for timewalking though

This happened to me once. I was in a group of three doing a quest line and the leader queues us up for the dungeon at the end.
I was on my Shadow Priest and did not pay attention when I accepted the roles. Apparently, I was queued as both Healer and DPS.
So we get in the dungeon and the run starts and the tank starts to lose health and I’m like “Where is the healer?”

“Dude YOU are heals!”
“What! No! I’m shadow I can’t… tries to heal but it’s not working Oh damn! Oh damn! Oh damn!”

I’ve actually done this before… I’m a dungeon on my Druid once… qued as Balance and our healer was a complete novice at healing… they even straight up said after the first wipe “I’m much better at DPS”… to which I replied “switch to DPS I’ll heal” they insisted on giving healing one more go… we wiped a second time and then we swapped roles and completed the dungeon.

If it’s an issue, speak up. If they refuse, vote to kick them. There are tools to these problems. If the rest vote no, then you’re in the minority and no action is required.

Yesterday I did an LFR wing where a Shaman healer was actually a Ele Shaman equipped in Mythic raid gear. The overall result was less time spent in LFR as we killed everything quicker.

If there was an issue, we would have told him to change or we would have kicked him for not being a healer.

Nobody in the group had any problems with it.
It’s a win-win.

The only reason people get upset over it is because they’re annoyed that they sat through a queue and for some reason feel as if they must have everyone else needlessly sit through the same queue. Obviously to the fact that they’re saving you time.

In my opinion, this timer shouldn’t need to exist, but it needs to exist. It prevents three guildies from queueing, and immediately kicking new players out of the group to see if they can get better ones. At least they have to wait for three minutes if they want to be heartless.

I guess you could aggro everything and wipe the party… just a thought.

Troll thread

Special event sign ups work differently.

Normal LFD will autoswitch. I open world say BDK. LFD pops as dps it has me in FDK no effort on my part. back to the open world back to BDK as well.

Holiday dungeon lfd…you go in as is. Which gets kind of funny. I came in as BDK as dps. the FDK signed up as tank for faster pickup and stayed FDK on the pick up.

at least a tank was there, right? Not the way it should be but still there lol.

Ele shaman with chains of devastation leggo is a better healer than 90% of the people you meet in LFD/LFR

this keeps happening to me in timewaling right now
people queueing healer and playing dps
it’s fine though because it’s easy

They have to be manually swapping back to DPS spec. The game will auto-swap my priest in to shadow when I get a DPS pop while leveling, even if I was previously in disc.

How does the “player is immune to vote kick after x number of vote kicks” timer prevent that?
