LFG Boost Groups in disguise

Anyone else run in to this recently? Filling out my mages vault with 15s and I see a group with a decent IO lead, apply, get accepted, join in and view the group when…there is one person in the group in all greens, no legendaries, clearly fresh 60 with 30k hp.

It is clearly a boost group but they pugged in me as their fill? I always end up leaving but after three of these groups back to back to back I am a lil suspicious. What is going on here?

Not exactly but I have definitely been pugged in as a surprise healer for a random group’s friend/guildie’s carry more than once, and only found out when I realize we’re at the first boss and one of the DPS is doing less damage than I am lol.

If I were you I’d be demanding a share of whatever they’re making or else brick the key. Ain’t nobody workin’ for free in this economy.

Well most of the groups have been horde or different server cluster.

TBH I detest boosting but blizz is okay with it so it is what it is.

Ahhh, I can imagine the sweet sweet justice of bricking their key.

It’s super rare that I will take the petty way out, but every now and then, somebody earns it.

Oh, I always take the petty way out. No bad deed goes unpunished! If I’m not getting paid for boosting, no one wins.

Buddies boosting a buddy.

You get the inverse listing keys. You get a group of 2 or 3 listing for your key. One of the players is vastly sub-io and sub ilvl for your key, the other(s) are vastly over io and over geared.

Honestly, that makes you the toxic person, not them. Especially if they’re just carrying their guildie or friend.

When you join a group, just mouse over the raid frames and if you don’t like what you see, leave. No reason to be a douche canoe and brick their key.

It’s always a surprise for me. Mage will have 80k HP and then pull 6k.

Nah.

If you’re a carry group, put that in your finder title. Don’t sit there hoping I won’t notice until we’re knee deep in the dungeon and I’m pulling twice my usual HPS trying to keep your free carry alive through mechanics they could’ve learned in 0s and 2s the proper way.

And by that point if you’re not going to find a way to shift me some gold or gear for my “haha oops, surprise!” trouble, then you deserve the bricked key.

Most aren’t though. Most are just playing with buddies or guildies’ alts they want to bring up.

I feel that’s kinda of on you though for not having the Raider.IO addon and just mousing over the raid frames super quick.

If a group says, “helping a friend”, I steer clear. I only carry my own friends.

Well, ideally, yes, leave the key before it starts to avoid bricking it.

But deception sucks too. Being forced to heal someone who is so squishy sucks. Being forced to compensate their lacking DPS also sometimes sucks.

I did it for a while. Basically means a bigger cut if you pug a slot.

In my experience, it’s not worth it. Takes forever to fill a group when the pug player sees a stupidly ungeared toon and immediately wises up to it.

“Watch me time this key using nothing but frostbolt.”

I’ve seen it. I only care on this character. While getting ksm on my resto shaman i never cared, because with me healing the group will finish either way.

If your buddy cannot play their class, that’s still a carry group, you’re just a free carry. You still ought to be letting me know. I see plenty of groups listed that are like “my key your carry” and that’s fair, because people showing up know what they’re signing up for. I would never join that key and then brick it.

Nah. It’s definitely on the group trying to trick me into carrying their idiot friend without warning me first, sorry.

My fresh Demon Hunter was in a group like that with guildees. Yes, guilds help each other like that

What deception ? Because they didn’t put the guy with lower io front and center, it’s deception ?

Honestly, if you brick someone’s key because you didn’t take 3 seconds to check out the group, I feel it’s 100% on you. There is no way to deceive anyone in the key system. You’re always free to inspect, check your add-on and leave before the key starts.

I joined a group on my DK to fill my 15s for weekly, guy ends filling the group, there’s no heroism. I left.

What am I checking for, exactly? Is there a stat on RIO that says “actual potato behind keyboard” somewhere I’m not seeing? Because plenty of low score people show up and do just fine and are not carries. Just like plenty of prior carries show up with high score and then actually blow chunks.

I’m not going to engage with you again on some point where you pretend to be obtuse and hand-wave away anything that might suggest another perspective, though. You go ahead and think I’m toxic for not being a doormat for pugs lol, I could not care less.

IO, gear, spec choice, talents.

And frankly, even if no one is bringing anyone, you risk running into a potato. Some potatoes are good at farming good io, having the proper talent setups, the good gear and can pass under the radar and still time keys, because let’s be frank, in S4, you really only need 2 good DPS up to around +24.
