LF Tech Help (Effecting wow but not related?)

Hello wow Tech Support, first and foremost I don’t know if this is 100% the correct place to go, but, I’ve been away from this game (other than maybe a few random log ins etc over the years) since Legion / early BFA and recently came back so I can enjoy the game like I was unable to in previous times, as before almost 20 years ago I played this game on a make shift desk a giant recliner chair and a laptop with a touch pad mouse keyboard turning and a shrimp backed kid ignoring every responsibility he had to become the next “Unbreakable Shaman” (IYKYK)

Fast forward to today, I have been blessed to have my life in a better spot and I don’t play on potato hand me down market place computers, and was able to purchase a from what I can tell a decent prebuilt.

Everything was fine when I first booted it up and what not, but recently my problems have started to glare, I know it has to be a setting or something because my 5 year old laptop doesn’t have this issue.

  • PROBLEM
When I play wow I can not for whatever reason use anything else, if I open google / webpages it can / does causes my wow to crash, I can’t run spotify and my discord is not having issues as well. If wow is opened as my main page it will cause everything else to stop in the background.

It’s almost like it’s struggling to load or process.

I have no idea on what to do, I’ve tried turning it off and back on etc.

I could really use some help my friends.

When I’m playing wow, I get 120FPS + (I have it locked at 120 FPS)

I don’t know what changed recently or what I have done or did etc. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly.

  • TLDR: Having issues running wow and anything else, I am a tech noob. Please send the “Geek Squad” lol

What are the specs of the computer?

I’m a noob at this stuff, let me know if I’ve missed any type of information.

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor
Ram 16GB
GPU (?):

  • AMD Radeon Graphics Processor
  • (Display 1)
  • Nvidia GeGorce RTX 4060 Ti
  • (it says display 2)

However I only have 1 monitor

Also Thanks for taking the time to reply and assist.

Can you add a diagnostic report (DxDiag) so we can look for additional issues?

Click here to show/hide DxDiag report instructions
  1. Press Windows Key + R, then type DxDiag and press Enter.
  2. In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
  3. Name the file dxdiag and click Save.

After you have the report:

Note: If you have trouble posting the URL, highlight the link and click </> on the post editor toolbar.

Please note that there is no guarantee what’s causing your issue will be apparent from a DxDiag and you may need to do more investigating on your own or speak with a PC technician.

In the meantime, turning off hardware acceleration in other apps (Discord, Bnet, Chrome, and any others) may reduce the strain on the overall system. And you also want to check for overheating components.

I might see how much it is to just bite the bullet and pay someone to look at it, knowing me, something might just be loose or some kind of wrong click down setting.

Just want to be able to play wow and listen to youtube in the background while I press buttons and play the slot machine number generator with ret paladin animations. lol.

Your monitor cable is plugged into the integrated GPU instead of your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. Changing that to the correct port should allow you to skip the rest of the troubleshooting.

Bro…

Thank you. This is why I don’t enjoy tech, I had no idea that was a thing lol

Any idea on why Youtube skips in the background while I’m playing? I’m paying for Fiber internet with w/e the highest package they offer with a direct wall port basically (straight cable)

You can still try toggling hardware acceleration on whichever browser you’re using. It should be in the advanced settings.

Just now getting home from work. I use Microsoft edge. I was told it’s better than chrome or Firefox now. (Unsure on that, but all I really do is YouTube and ChatGPT lol)

Microsoft Edge is a Chromium browser, meaning it’s just a different browser skin like Google Chrome.

Just open settings and type acceleration in the search box near the top right. Toggle Use graphics acceleration when available and restart the browser.

I had this option,

  • "Improve your PC gaming experience with efficiency mode. Are you satisfied with efficiency mode for PC gaming?

  • When you’re playing a PC game, Microsoft Edge reduces its computer resource (CPU) usage to create a better gaming experience."

So basically turn this off?

Edit: I turned it off but my youtube still stops running in the background, its gotta be some kind of internet or connection setting… theres no way I can have an old laptop that can play wow and youtube but this thing can’t…

I checked the options yesterday, but maybe you’re on a different version of Edge. I wouldn’t use that setting because it’s essentially pausing websites in the background, which could additionally contribute to your YouTube problem.

As for YouTube continuing to pause, can’t say what’s causing that. Maybe you have an adblocker running that doesn’t play well with YouTube? Might want to ask on the YouTube troubleshooting forum.

I don’t have adblockers or anything, but I appreciate all your help. I think I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and pay someone to come out or do some kind of screen share tech help lol

I would just try a different browser… like Firefox.

Some ad blockers cause Youtube to lag really hard. They’d prefer you don’t use them, heh.

So I ended up paying for a local shop to remote access my computer, I guess it had some install errors and the 16gb or Ram I had was running super high. How I am unsure, but he helped me clear everything out that was fluff space ordered 32gb or Ram (two more 16 sticks) see if it works.
