I dont like Conquest.
Is there any alternatives out there?

Care to elaborate? D you mean their system, or their events. Perhaps, you are speaking of /rolling in general. There are alternatives out there; yes, to answer your question. ![]()
If you’re meaning end game PvP ladder climbing and wanting to avoid that, the guild Hand of Algalon may interest you, while I am not a member, I do know that their Guild Leader, Sswatchto enjoys both casual and competitive PvP.
If it’s not Sswatchto running something, it’ll be other members who usually like to ask if people want to join them in not ranked BGs.
Yes, I meant in RP Combat specifically I am not a fan of rolls when the group is too big, specially when there is very complex, rolling system, I encountered a lot of Moonguard has this so that is why I have moved to WrA.
Oh! Well in that situation it may be more beneficial to whisper the person that you’re about to RP fight and see if the two of you can come to an agreement on what will generally happen in the combat scene.
Asking if in-character injury is okay is important, sometimes it’s useful to flip a coin for some situations, like if an attack is a solid impact or just a glancing blow, and always make sure that your character has an escape route, magical or mundane.
Escape routes can be of the utmost importance if your character is less magical, remember that adrenaline isn’t magical but when massive things like Troll and Tauren being able to utilize it, it may as well be.
That does make a difference knowing. I wish you luck in your search.
i think theyre referring to guild rp campaigns with multiple people and npcs.
Just thinking about the math is making me sleepy lol
Honestly lowkey hate big guild storylines period.
I think your best bet for a “no rolls” guild would be to look for a smaller RP guild. I’m not sure which ones are recruiting at the moment, but they do exist. Slice-of-life guilds are also an option.
Conquest is a MG roll system used in multi-guild events. It thankfully has not made as big of a presence here. WRA also typically avoids massive combat events to the scale of MG
Most guilds here hang out with themselves or maybe a couple other guilds. Each guild has its own way of handling combat events. Some use roll systems (not Conquest typically) and others go free form. Just depends on the guild!
I was lucky enough to be in a roleplaying (not roll-playing) guild up until legion. I don’t get the use of dice in a game where the RNG is built into the system.
I went to a huge event like that when I was still fairly new to WoW and had no idea what I was getting myself into lol. It was also my first experience with rolling/turn based gaming of any kind. It lasted hours and I didn’t get to do more than a few rolls the whole time. I was absolutely flummoxed and it put me off the entire concept of turn based combat for years.
I still remember the emotional roller coaster when, after we’d already been there for a few hours, one of the organizers announced that it was time for a break and that it would last 8 minutes before we’d all continue on for another few hours.
The biggest issue I have with guild campaigns are my characters themselves. When SWTOR came out Sadgati was 25. According to that games current calendar, she is now 48 years old. Most guilds in that game requires her to go through sith academy despite actually having a screen shot showing her graduating in 2012 via another guild. In essence, I have to roll a whole new character to rank up. All of my characters been around for 15 plus IRL years.
At that point why not just go raid. It provides the same experience but you get to participate the entire time.
This is why I’m an actor in this game and not an adventurer tbh.
The danger in running events that last several hours, especially in an ongoing campaign, is that not all participants can stay up all night.
The ones that do, because they can, night after night develop a pretty tight bond and discover more of the story. Meanwhile, those who needed to get to bed or whatever log on the next day and are lost, story-wise, and start to feel like an outsider.
I’m a fan of 2-3 hour events that are advertised as such and don’t go over. Slice of life RP to follow after the mission is great, but there shouldn’t be any more story reveals after that.
IMHO.
I also like a planned window and firm stopping time. If there doesn’t seem to be a good stop point, stop within reason anyway. Some guildies can’t sit up til 2 AM on a work night.
Are you me? The exact same thing happened to me when I was new! They did not even announce that it was going to be a combat event and the system was not explained well. I was absolutely petrified with terror at the fast pace and math. Mine did not get a break, though.
R.I.P. 8 hours later.
I had a few bad experiences with roll combat that also turned me off for years, and it still is not really my thing. I have had fun in some subsequent events so it just largely depends on who is running it and also being more practiced and comfortable in it. Luckily liking combat RP is not a requirement to RP!
That is why it is imperative that event leaders give people fair warning OOC in case people want to opt out, and also explain systems clearly and patiently—everyone may not be an old pro. I am adamant about this in my RP guide. xD
If I were looking for a guild now, slice of life sounds pretty good to me lol!
Thank you fam for the recommendation ![]()

but yeah if you are lf a guild let me know I can send you a list, I’m at the gym so I’ll edit this message with a few names off the top of my head here later Axchel
I’m in the same boat here: I generally hate any kind of dice rolling in RP. Tabletop? Sure. RP? Naw. I’d rather RP my character’s failures as much as their successes. Also, I tend to be on a limited schedule, and I’d just rather focus on story more than mechanics. Bloodbound Warband uses Conquest for some events, but it’s largely considered optional, and I’ve DM’ed diceless campaigns in the past and plan to do more in the future.
I like using rolls for a few things. I can do an entire roll RP for battles, but I guess my guild never really has battles now that I think about it. I like both, but not everyone likes a full roll system.
As folks mentioned before, Conquest (as an organization) is not as prominent over here on WrA. While some WrA folks participate in it now and then, it’s largely seen as a MG effort.
That’s also not to put anything on Conquest or similar events, it’s just that those types of structured dice events are not everyone’s tea and WrA by and large tends to reject such formats in lieu of something more character-driven, with heavier emphasis on collaborative writing (i.e., determining outcomes via OOC chats and active teamwork to craft an ensemble story).
That is how my guild largely does it and has for years. While we have a handful of folks who love the writing challenge and spontaneity of d20 rolls to their improvisation, we’ve developed a system that allows folks to do that if they wish while also supporting those who do not. As long as folks are interested in writing a story together, do not fixate on “winning” or dominating an RP scene, and no meta is involved, such a flexible system works great for smaller groups.
Best of luck to you! To help in your search, don’t hesitate to join the Wyrmrest Community Project (WCP) Discord.
