Hi. My friend and I are looking for a priest for a 2200 push as Ret/Hunter/Priest. We know it’s not really meta, but we want to play what we enjoy. My friend was duelist last season playing MW and has swapped to ret so I can play hunter.
Our current CR is 1721 and we were queing at low 1800 MMR last night (I get it everyone lies about their MMR on here but it’s the truth). I have a 418 ilvl and the ret is 410. We both have our maladicts.
We would like a priest that consistently looks to fear off our HoJ/Trap because in this meta with all the self-healing we need as long a chain as we can muster. The ability to play holy is a big bonus to help set up cross CC versus certain comps that have multiple ways to disrupt traps.
My friend is new to ret so mistakes (big ones) happen from time to time. We would appreciate your patience as he finds his stride on a new class. If you can help us analyze and improve upon mistakes we make that would be a plus too.
That about covers it. We play in the evenings most days from around 6-12pm EST.

As I also play this comp, as survival, one thing I noticed in my own games that can help out. With ret being such a wheelchair having a terrible time sticking on targets maximizing his uptime has led to more success with us. It’s to the point I never ask the ret to hoj so I can trap and instead tell him to hoj the kill target when I get the trap so he can stay on target. If you can trap on your own, pretty easy as survival with pet stun and the other tools we have for it, I would suggest trying this and watching ur rets damage sky rocketing.

Thanks. The ret and I have talked about me playing SV to bolster the exact weaknesses you pointed out and I will be experimenting with it. Just looking for a healer that is ok with me experimenting and won’t tilt as we iron out the kinks in this comp.

Er, there are some very real benefits to playing BM with a ret. Mostly for the 10% damage reductions. SV doesn’t offer much for upfront damage outside of mongoose spam. While the sustained is good, the damage inside a CC window would be better with BM as well.
As far as priests getting fear off, it’s tough now. have played php as a hunter to 2.4 and as a priest to 2.2, but getting fears off traps on some maps really compromises the positioning of the priest. If they can get it, great, but it shouldn’t be the baseline for what you should expect out of a priest in this meta.

True that, I just really prefer survival playstyle. I’m that .01% of hunters that enjoys survival.
I don’t mind it, but it has saw drawbacks in the current meta. Especially vs dh/dk where you and the ret are both getting cleaved. With bm, you can sit back some and support the priest. Keeping conc shot on anyone that tries to push in for cc and your less reliant on needing master’s call for yourself.

I will advise you to play with a disc and never a holy priest. Disc definitely is bad right now but holy is the absolute worst healer in the game.
Definitely play with and what you like, but just thought I’d warn u on that fam.
Also I want to tell you about my ret friends stream. His name is Nas. He is one of the highest rets on the ladder and is a really cool chill guy to talk to about stuff. He even explained to me back in legion how to beat his comp when I faced him (saying this to stress how cool he is).

meh, if your only goal is 2200 then grab a disc. Going higher than glad with a dpriest is almost impossible with cupid. The priest is just going to get ran over by anything that moves.

I also enjoy the melee survival. I did enjoy ranged as well tho. Ive mained survival since legion.

I’d honestly just queue anything that lets you both play with a healer that isn’t a Priest, coming from a Holy Priest PoV this is the most miserable experience I’ve ever had healing in 3’s, 2’s is fine for me as Holy but in 3’s, having no choice but to take Greater Heal or give up ever being viable in this current meta feels awful; every match I’m so stressed out of my mind hoping that my 3 second Greater Heal casts will get me up as I watch my health bar teeter between 100% and 10% as the enemy team focuses me for 10 mins. I can’t rely on Flash Heal to do enough healing as Blizzard refuses to buff any of my spells that don’t take forever to cast for some reason that I can’t figure out.
To add insult to injury I’ve been posting all over the forums since September asking Blizzard to buff Holy’s healing numbers in Arena but I’ve been almost entirely ignored apart from one half assed buff in 8.1 and a 55% nerf to my mana regen in PvP. Blizzard ruined Holy in BfA after they put so much work in to making it viable and fun in Legion (I don’t think they paid attention to another spec more than they did for Holy in Legion).
Even WoD was more fun to play as Holy.
Yes, sadly the state of PvP balance is not good atm. We’d love to que with you anyway. We are 1776CR atm after finding a good disc to play with, but we could always use more friends.
I haven’t been playing at all this season and I haven’t pushed past 2k on my priest since wod so I’d be extremely rusty… Also kinda undergeared (380 I think).
