Hi all. I’ve been playing Alliance for nearly 16 years now, and I’d like to start a Horde character now for a change of pace. But I don’t know where to start!
I’ve heard that Area 52 is one of the busiest Horde servers but that it is really toxic. Is that true? What are some suggestions for a busy, friendly Horde server?

Every server has it’s town idiots. I’m on Area 52 but it isn’t as bad as people say. Either install the Badboy addon or disable trade chat, find a group/guild you like and roll with it.
Thrall is an excellent server for Horde. Area 52 is also really good as well. They are definitely better than some but I won’t bad mouth servers. However, you will find toxicity no matter where you go, unfortunately.
Zul’jin was pretty fun for me.
Zul’jin is a very good server as well.
area 52 and illidan are the highest population horde servers and combined they double the entire allaince population if you combined all the servers so id just pick one of those, you wont really find a nice friendly server because all of the servers are combined. so you will still get players from the other servers no matter what server you join.
the reason to pick an active server is so you have guilds to join and an active auction house because those are seperated by server. i personally think alot of the guilds on area 52 are great, i just joined the one im in a few days ago and these guys are hilarious
I rolled Area 52 recently as I was invited to a raid guild, and I’ve found it pretty good. I’ve had no problems.
And if you’re looking to raid, check out Gotham 
i might just do that, social guilds are fun and all but i am kinda interested in doing a bit of raiding in shadowlands
alot of guilds ive ran into want you to be spamming raids rn in prepatch and raids are so bad rn with the balance change and class changes that id rather not
Area 52 is a good choice. I’ve had several horde toons over there for a few years now. Lots of good people and of course the occasional jerk, but you can find some of those any where.
Great! We only raid up to Heroic though, and our raid nights are Tu and Th for 3 hours a night. Cause we got lives and such. Good if you’re wanting to be somewhat casual with raiding.
But a lot of the peeps will also run mythic dungeons and such, as I will be
TBH I haven’t walked into Ny’alotha since prepatch. I just don’t feel the need to.
Dalaran is a pretty good server for either faction.
Area 52 is good. I don’t socialize enough in General to see if it’s toxic if not. But it’s high pop and low latency for me and has a thriving AH.
If you’re looking for a guild, I’d point you to my fiends in Evolved Gaming. They’re a good group of people that play on Area 52 under that name and as Evolved Alliance-side on Proudmoore.
I would recommend between Thrall or Area 52. Both a great servers.
