So this doesn’t apply to M+ obviously because you’re making this groups but at this point most people aren’t leveling with a group so for dungeons you’re stuck with the random finder.
My first 6 toons were tanks now that I’m doing healers and dps the tanks are driving me batty. They run through, maybe maybe toss one spell at the mobs and then keep going. If the dps fires off a spell there is aggro, if the healer tries to heal them becaude they have 10 mobs and are at 40% there’s aggro, or sometimes they’re just out of line of sight of the healer because they kept leaping forward.
No one is asking you to do one pack at a time, and dps who immediately pop all CDs will pull aggro the alts their own fault. But stop bringing your MDI, M+ speed race style into groups unless you can actually do it. And from my experience about 1/5 actually pull it off correctly
In my experience, if a Tank doesn’t pull in a levelling dungeon at MDI pace, the DPS will start pulling for them. It’s usually DPS ‘gogogo’-ing the Tank, which led to the Tank community adapting and ‘gogogo’-ing by default to avoid the drama… even if their class doesn’t have the AOE threat generation potential to keep up.
Very good point, perhaps their prior runs the dps ran ahead anyways. Still I find once you get into DF a lot of classes can’t sustain so if you let them pull and go down then you and the rest of the group can clean up
I have 100% had a vote kick initiated against me before because I didn’t do the hyper optimized leveling pull route at lightning speed as a tank before. It’s kind of hilarious and sad, and people wonder why tanks by and large hate pugging and doing queued content.
I rarely see it as an issue while leveling. I would say 1 out of 15-20 dungeons a tank pulls more then they should, or dps pull for them, and even less where it ends in a wipe.
In leveling dungeons I think healers knowing how to cleanse or simply use their tool kit properly is a bigger issue.
Related to this issue, if you happen to grab aggro on a mob away from the tank, please stack on top of the tank so they can cleave it and reestablish aggro. Don’t make the tank run to you or hope that they notice the mob off on its own to taunt when they’re busy with the rest of the pull.
A good tank knows how much to pull based upon the healer’s ability to heal the group, and the DPS’ ability to kill the mobs. Also, not everything needs to be pulled, and many mobs can be skipped, which is faster than killing them.
I can and will cleave pull in packs and LOS each and everyone I can.
As a Heals I sorta expect the Heals to follow me close and work with me to stay in LOS with me and group.
As DPS. I wait till they get to their LOS pull destination and then AOE the tar out of them. While using Misdirect or any other aggro negating ability.
TL;DR on my comment. Let the tank pull as much as they want, do the LOS dance and if DPS dies its DPS fault. If tank pulls around a corner and the heals do not follow. Its on the heals. (I said it and stand by it) Groups should follow tank. DPS should count to 5 before blasting.
In Randoms. Especially normals. It should be easy peasy lemon squeazey.
I would think you could 5 man tank them and still do good.
Maybe in “Known” groups. But Pugs where you zone in. Its a “Jump into the deep end of the pool on first pull” sorta thing. After that…Tank should sorta know if he has a weaker healer or not.
