Leveling Warlock for the first time, some quality of life issues here

Hey guys,

I’m finally playing Warlock (Affliction for now) after so many different characters, and the last change to Sow the Seeds was the turning point to me. IMO, this became the most amazing AoE spell in the game, not only the damage is now good, but also the visuals, the mechanics, etc.

However, I’m immediately noticing one thing:
Everything on the Warlock seems harder, slower, or plain awkward when comparing to other classes. I remember an old stamement I heard many years ago, and it now makes sense to me - “Why can’t Warlocks have nice things?”

I’d like to leave my view here. Of course it’s a noob view, and more focused on questing/leveling, but sometimes a new player can see something from different angles, maybe.

  1. I’ve never gained so many circumstantial/support/useless abilities on other classes, comparing to Warlock. Subjugate Demon, Ritual of Doom… Even the Hunter recently got a PvP ability (Chimaeral Sting) with all debuffs merged into a single ability, but Warlocks still have 3 different curses that could be simply merged into one. I sense I have so many buttons to press now with Warlock, but only a few do nice/effective things.

  2. Now I’m playing Warlock, I have no more ways to leave combat, and I can’t even choose Night Elf. How many times have I been stuck in combat (a known bug that happens many many times to me). Dropping aggro is also very important while questing.

  3. Healing my pet (demon) now requires standing still and channeling. Try playing Hunter for a long time and then migrate to Warlock. Unecessary lack of quality of life here.

  4. Reviving my pet now takes 6 seconds. OMG. And to solve this seems they created another ability to reduce the casting time, but then you have to add this extra ability to a macro, and even by doing this this you still get a 0.5 summoning time (just to not make it instant). Why so much complexity just to summon a demon (which is not even that powerful to begin with). Why things can’t be instant for Warlock?

  5. Burning Rush is my only movement ability, but taking it means my pet will take a lot of damage and even die. Then combine it with the already mentioned issues with pet healing and pet reviving. I feel in a trap. Must choose between questing without any speed boost, or questing with a pet that querires healing (standing still healing) all the time.

  6. I tried to play with all lvl 15 talents, until noticing that casting Shadow Bolt on Affliction is the most boring and unrewarding thing ever. This is probably the only filler that does nothing. Took me a few minutes to understand that Drain Soul is clearly THE Affliction filler, but then you have an entire talent row locked.

Honestly questing doesn’t matter. Things like burning rush are more for group play where you have a healer to top you off while burning rushing.

At 60 you also get soulshape which is a huge boost as well.

Health Funnel is SOOOOO cringe.

  1. Don’t think curses will be merged as that’d be too powerful, esp in PvP, and, yeah, it’d be good if the useless abilities were fixed .
  2. Pretty sure this was something we used to be able to do. Now, your best bet is to run away leaving your demon to his fate.
  3. Yeah, this sucks.
  4. You won’t find many warlocks with whom this isn’t a major bugbear.
  5. Demon Skin should be your go to when questing. Burning Rush hurts/sucks when you don’t have a healer nearby.
  6. I don’t play Aff but, yeah, pretty much.

While I agree with what you’re saying, I gotta meme.

  1. plsbuffdestro
  2. plsbuffdemo
  3. plsbuffaff
  4. my staff is a good one
  5. nerf epicburn’s mustache
  6. bring back meta/incinerate while moving/cata xpac versions of ‘X’ spec

Dont worry i promise that things will get much worse at level 60, you will feel useless for every game content in the game.

Lol what?

At least on the level of pve i play i don’t feel useless.

I feel like that isn’t really specific to warlock

I don’t macro it lol. I have only so many buttons.

Idk how you’re killing your pet with burning rush. Locks have a lot of leach and healing abilities. Use burning rush in short bursts if you do feel like you gotta have it. I just mount and run everywhere

This is a pretty heavy overstatement. While not top of the heap, we’re more than viable in all content except maybe super high-end CR rated pvp.

Aff is a spec which gets better than the other 2 specs after max level, after a lot of gear in high level content. Till then you’ll always feel weaker. Keep your eyes on the end game & don’t worry about the meter till then… or just learn destro also since its fairly easy to level with.

Dismissing your pet helps. Play with the voidwalker. Run away, the voidwalker stays back to fight its own battles. Dismiss and summon a new one.

Feeling weak in open world content has never been an issue. I’ve never really had to kite as destro. Keep a soulstone on yourself at all times. In a pinch just running to a corner & then dying to simply rez when the mobs have run away is a viable strat.

I always assumed shadowbolt was useless for affliction because the level 15 row was supposed to allow you to choose your filler. Shadowbolt, Drain life, Drain Soul. The shadowbolt talent is just so undertuned that shadowbolt receives no love whatsoever.

Drain soul should just become baseline and the two talents should get replaced.
