So, I know I posted about the shaman duo a little while back. I plan on maining a shaman in classic, and my wife was going to run a shaman as well due to my poor use of avatar as a reference for the shaman class >.>
After showing her more of the abilities and gameplay, she’s more likely to play a hunter now, so crisis averted there.
A buddy of ours will be playing as well, and he mained a gnome mage back in TBC/WOTLK (he never played vanilla). I’m trying to figure out what class to recommend for him, he likes casters and since we’re going horde I feel like he’s probably going to go warlock or mage again.
With me as a shaman - probably enhance/resto for leveling and resto/enhance later on (or maybe resto/ele) once I get towards level cap and start doing dungeons, I’ll have psuedo-tanking and healing covered pretty well. The wife will probably be using a wolf or cat pet, so dps-oriented.
What do you think would be a better compliment to those two classes? Mage would offer portals and food/drink, but not much else I can think of other than straight damage.
Warlock, on the other hand, would allow all three of us to survive a wipe (warlock soulstone, hunter feign death, and shaman reincarnate) during group content. Warlock would also provide a voidwalker pet to tank early level content or world elites, and I remember voidwalkers being insanely good tanks back in the day. With three of us playing, we’d also be able to use warlock summoning to get other players to the instances we’re doing (IIRC you needed the warlock and 2 others to help the ritual, right?). They also, from what I recall, put out similar damage to mages as a caster, and were notably tougher. Would probably also be better if we run into pvp situations than a mage would be.
Any comments or suggestions?
Are you stuck on horde? If not, go Paladin. You can tank for that group while leveling and keep everybody alive pretty easily.
But if you gotta be horde, yeah Shaman is your best bet, maybe druid too.
I played a night elf druid main in vanilla wow and through WOTLK, I want to go horde this time and get a different experience.
I figure that shaman taking/warlock pet tanking is plenty while leveling, and when we start getting into the 30/40+ dungeons and need a ‘real’ tank, there are bound to be troves of warriors to group with (they seem to be one of the most popular classes right now, especially for horde). At that point, we have two DPS and me as a healer, tank should be easy to find, and then it’s just one more dps/CC to complete a group, which also should be easy to find.
Warlock is easier to level than Mage by a long shot.
Leveling in BC as discipline/holy priest/affliction warlock, we could do basically all group content in the open world. Kal’tast was a pretty good tank other than occasional threat issues. Would a beast master hunter’s pet be good enough to tank? If so, the portals and food might be more useful to your group than the voidwalker and summoning ritual.
I am a big fan of group leveling where your group as both healing and tanking options (even if the tank is a pet). It lets you take on situations that are beyond the capabilities of a dps only group of the same size.
If you go with a holy trinity then all you ever need to is pick up 2 dps which are always in plentiful supply at any level.
Agree that holy trinity would best, so a warrior or druid would be best for your friend. You can also make a fast group. But since he wants to play a caster - warlock or mage are both great.
Like i posted in the other thread, everyone should just play what they like. You’ll make it work
