Leveling sub rogue

I have played on and off the past couple years but never got passed like level 50 so I am by no means good. I decided to level a Sub Rogue for Shadowlands and I am not sure if I am just trash, but at least in the early levels sub rogue seems pretty weak for leveling in comparison to warriors I have played in the past. Is subtlety rogue still bad or is it good now for late game? Also is the spec worth playing?

Sub is lackluster until you get Shadow Dance at 22 or whatever it is. Then after that its still meh outside of that cooldown until you get deepening shadows at 41. Not the best for leveling, but great to level as if you plan to main sub at max. The time leveling will give you the chance to learn the spec one step at a time instead of being overwhelmed by swapping to it at max level.

Yeah sub rogue is below average leveling speed but a great class at max level

Sub Rogue is very good for leveling but you HAVE to know what you are doing.

If you are new to Rogue and don’t understand the importance of restealthing, pooling energy, and lining up CDs it may seem like Sub Rogues doesn’t have the X factor.

But once you reach higher levels and you put everything together Sub does better for leveling even than Outlaw.

This is because Outlaw relies on Blade Flurry which is not good until Shadowlands with the second rank past level 50.

Sub requires you pay attention to the target you open on when questing and make sure to utilize Sap, Blind, Kidney, etc.

With Shadow Dance the possibilities open up even more. But first understand the basics of using energy and CPs first.

Rogue just feels really weak at lower levels, kind of always has.
Once you have all your tools it will feel fluid and powerful

I don’t understand the statment that someone is leveling a sub rogue. What I read is according to logs and testing sub is looking really strong so i want to play that. I think it would be better to level a rogue . I am all for playing the specc you like but if you are chasing what is strong you that specc you are leveling for might not stay there. Then what? You quit the class? Try all the speccs even if sub is apparently the strongest the other speccs are still good.

If you just chase and play what is strong you will always be unhappy because as a novice you wont get the same results as someone who knows the class.

I just recently came back to the game after not playing a rogue since classic. I played sub then and leveled to 50 using pretty much the same skillset I used back then. Let me stress to you one thing… USE SHADOWDANCE!! Macro it with words of power. I leveled to 50 without it and OMG, what a difference. Lol
Guess I shoulda read up on the class changes since then, I didn’t realise that the class is built around this now. On the bright side, I got real familiar with all the gimmicks we have to keep us alive in extended fights.
