Leveling speed

Just curious about how long will it take to level from 1-Max level? I’m only playing classic because I am injured and on short term disability right now. Im getting bored with classic and thinking about trying retail if I can fully level a new toon.

All so is there people that even play the lower level stuff anymore or do they mainly just boost?

Getting to max level (120) would currently require purchasing BfA which comes with a 110 boost. I would, however recommend leveling a class for a while before boosting that class. Depending upon your play preferences, some classes will sound a lot more enjoyable than they are for you.

People still level from level 1 but sharding may impact the number of players you see in a zone. It can be practically empty sometimes, and the same zone can be incredibly busy depending upon what shard you get sent to when you enter the zone.

It doesn’t cost anything additional to try out retail, so no reason not to give it a go. Leveling is much, much, faster than in classic. How fast depends upon how many hours you want to put in and your knowledge of how to get around.

If you’re not anti-addons and aren’t too terribly concerned about story in the zones, I recommend Azeroth Auto Pilot. It helps the leveling experience go by faster by pointing you to the most efficient quests and giving you easy instructions of what to do in each place (sometimes the quest log is more ambiguous).

I think it is designed moreso for people with heirlooms (account-bound gear that gives leveling boosts you can only get once you have at least one max-level character), but in either case it’s a nice way to be able to auto pilot while leveling a character whilst having a show open on the other monitor.

If your a tank or heals, spamming dungeons from 15-90 with near instant queues is the fastest. Dps…queue for dungeons while questing. Dungeons are highly populated at all levels, and BFA zones 110-120 are highly populated.

Azeroth Auto Pilot also lets you turn in and pick up quests with one click. Works great even without heirlooms. It puts a dotted line on the minimap attaching your character to the destination changing the best route as you move.

I’m about 20 hours in and I’m level 39 and I’m being terribly inefficient I think (having to back track across the entire map to get a quest I didn’t realize was left). That’s with numerous trips back to the Exodar to try to sell some random junk on the auction house.

I’m using the warmode thingy which gives you 25% more xp but there’s a chance that you could be attacked by a player. I had an undead necromancer try to kill me in Ashenvale, we both fought for a bit then he ran away and I went back to questing lol.

The leveling speed isn’t brutal at all in my opinion. 1 - 20 is harsh though. When I got my first mount, it made a HUGE difference. Can’t wait to get my upgraded speed at 40.

Leveling time varies greatly based on experience, efficiency and how distracted you get by non-leveling stuff. For me, without heirlooms, and not stopping to do professions or rep grinds (but not worrying about most efficient paths and stopping to read quests) it’s probably about 100 hours to 120. With heirlooms, skipping reading quests, and focusing on zones I can do the most efficiently, I can do it in less than half that time. (Those times do include the fact that I have flying unlocked in WoD, Legion, and BfA, so without that, you’re probably adding a couple hours to each expansion.)

As a point of reference, I think I was about 10 days /played to get to 60 in Classic.

What a lot of players do is create a bank alt that can handle auction house stuff. Make a level one character and run them to the nearest city. Then, you main character can just mail stuff to them either to store for later or to sell on the AH. That way, once your bags get full of stuff, you just need to find the nearest mailbox, not go all the way back to the city.

To Udiza’s advice about rolling a bank alt, I would add that the only things you really need gold for while leveling are going to be money for faster riding skills and bigger bags that enable you to stay out in the field longer.

Don’t wast money buying gear on the AH that you will outlevel in a day or two. Quest rewards and dungeon drops will keep you geared up enough to level.
