Disclaimer: Pleae don’t tell me to take it easy/take it all in. I don’t care for that style of play. I enjoy leveling fast.
Okay with that out of the way, I want to know why I am leveling so slow. I’m a 23 Orc Shaman and I am averaging 12,000 experience per hour. I’m using the online classicwow.live guide and I feel like it’s both me and the guide being pretty mediocre. A lot of the time I find myself walking a lot just to do 1 quest, or finding out a quest in the guide is takes forever because it’s being spawn camped.
I saw an old guide called Jame’s Horde Leveling guide and it seems better, bunches up the quests more so you’re doing multiple quests at a time, less walking, but more grinding too. He averages 22,000 experience per hour at my level.
Do you think I am leveling slow? Should I change leveling guides?
Do whatever you want man. The queues are so ridiculous right now a lot of people are switching servers daily to find realms that aren’t queued up. Just enjoy the game and see it.
Thats the problem with a guide.
You and 1,000,000 other people can’t all optimally take the same route.

Based off my census app of my server on alliance anyone over level 20 is in the top 10% of players on the server. The majority of all players are around level 10.

Sounds like Classic to me. Leveling is supposed to be slow. Go ahead and attempt to rush it, but you are going to be running a lot. And up to 30 is smooth, the closer you get to 50, the grindier it becomes.

To add to what others have also said - leveling in Classic is slow AF. Mind numbingly slow. The highest person in the “world first” race right now is 34 lol. Esfand himself is legit 27 the last time I looked at his stream tonight and that dude plays literally 24x7

Most guides don’t take into account how crowded things are during a fresh server launch. They may be more effective down the line when there’s less competition, but they aren’t optimal when the entire population is leveling.
You and I have total opposite leveling tactics. Try zygote guides. Seem to be pretty fast from what they advertise
For reference, 23-24 is 30,000 xp, so at my speed it would take my 2 1/2 hours.
Vanilla leveling has always been slow and it was replicated here.
some classes are slower than other.
also you need to optimize your rotation and mob killing
Try using classicwow live leveling or Zygor, Joana, Limeguide
Leveling was slow in vanilla.
99% of leveling isn’t how fast you kill something or how fast you collect items - it’s all pretty much just getting to the quest area and then back to the quest giver.
Now you know the pain and suffering we went through in vanilla. You young bucks never knew the struggle. The longer it takes to do a quest, the more excited I get. It’s like crack. I want the long struggle and pain from leveling. Oh have I missed those long and tough days of grinding it out in wow and struggling to get to 60. Welcome to Vanilla young fella.

James leveling guide for Horde and Alliance is what I used back in the days. I leveled all characters to 60 and wanted to level more and more. That leveling guide is embedded in my brain now. If you can find James Leveling Guide for Horde, DO IT. It will make it easier. Don’t expect fast leveling. This is vanilla. Only the strong survive.
Joanas guide is good too tells you which quests to skip etc, and depends on if pvp server(getting ganked on escort quests sucks bad)
I actually adore the slower pace. Every quest feels like well… A QUEST! An actual adventure. No more quest trackers telling me EXACTLY where to go. I have to read the story, explore the map, and talk with other people for information.
It feels like I am an actual traveler when I am learning the landmarks, interacting with the locals and other adventurer’s.
WoW was always meant to be played this way. All the stuff that railroaded us to the next thing on our “to do” list only stole from the experience.
Enjoy the climb. Not just the top of the mountain.

This is questing in Classic, it is nothing you are doing wrong. It is slow. There are intentional time sinks (walking, spawns) to make it slow.
