Would leveling as holy or discipline have more dps potential from 80-90, or are both slow and painful?
I hate shadows rotation and how unbelievably squishy it is with useless self-healing. I’d rather just not level my priest at all if it means having to endure it.

Level it in timewalking dungeons as healer.
They aren’t available this week. I didn’t do last week because, well, Cataclysm.
I found midnight dungeons fine as heals, though repetitive as heck of course, solo/delves i just healed valeera dps and took the holy damage Talents.
Chastise stun into double holy fire and a few smites wasn’t super fast of course but was easy and safe. I’m the same tho, not touching shadow with a 56 foot pole this xpac
Probably spam dungeons. But if you don’t mind me asking, is there another class where you like all the specs? Personally if I don’t like one of the specs available to a class I don’t stick with it much.
If you’re dead set on priest, dungeon spam or waiting for a timewalking week. If you want questing, I find Holy to be somewhat engaging and decent burst with CDs.
Yes, warlock for example. The problem is I like healing in groups, so I like to play a class that heals. The only healing playstyles I like are holy priest and resto shaman, but I don’t like the other two shaman specs.
If I liked paladin healing, it would be my favourite class, but it feels clunky and not great with aoe healing.
yeah for some reason mages are like mini-tanks this expansion, where as shadow priests are actually squishier (or as squishy) as rogues.
The best bet is holy priest, since disc priest does too little damage. Holy priest is ok though if go the dps talent route like said above.
I leveled these last two expansions as holy and DF as disc. You never worry about dying and archon/holy puts out pretty decent aoe numbers.
It was better last expansion with shadow word pain to keep pulling more mobs in, but it is what it is.
Keep holy nova spammable so you can keep lowering the cooldown of chastise on the run.
I leveled through midnight as a void weaver disc priest and I thought it was pretty manageable, but i also play tanks so to me im kinda used to slowly killing mobs. but void weaver disc priest has the highest DPS out of all the priest healer setups
It’s not even just leveling. I am knocking out the heroic Val and Naigtal achievements and my spriest, at 320 ilvl, has a tough time with sustainability with mobs let alone trying to solo the rares. If I get jumped by the roaming rares it’s gg. My 310 warlock has it on easy mode, very soloable and I basically switched to just do it all on the lock. It doesn’t even matter if I am demo or aff, it’s just easier and I feel safer. It would be nice if they made spriests version of sustainability just an insane amount of leech. I feel like if I have 3 mobs on me I will end up with like 50% hp after every pull.
How is it you guys have so many problems leveling a spriest? Use your crowd control and defensives. You should be pulling 3-4 mobs with no issue.
SP is probably the squishiest spec in the game. Our defensives and self-healing are junk.
I’d say Holy Priest.
Between Oracle and Archon, I’d go with Oracle. I think I do more damage with it, and I get more movement speed, which is something Priest really lacks.
You should just stack Crit/Vers. Haste is necessary, but not nearly as important as the other two.
Mastery is pretty much useless if your plan is just to quest.
DPS trinkets help too.
If you take all the talents that reduce the Holy Word cooldown, you basically become a machine gun.
Nope, mobs hit too hard and dps not high enough if you don’t outgear it. Our defensives have long cooldowns and aren’t available every pull.
Yeah I see that, it’s just a bummer that not even ilvl can fix it. I really wish they leaned into leech through vamp touch as a pillar theme for our sustainability. I am purposely running as much as possible, around 5% right now, through tertiaries but it’s not nearly enough.
Yeah, shadow used to have decent leech in expansions past, but it’s nearly useless now.
I’ve leveled mutiple priests this expansion and what you are saying is just not true.

have you tried voidweaver disc? good offensive dmg while still being able to heal. I’m a shadow loyalist but disc from a outside perspective looks like you get the best of both worlds dps and heals
