Leveling: Now or Wait

I am thinking of leveling a new class to enjoy Shadowlands with. Should I level now or should I wait to level when prepatch hits? I heard that leveling is changing but is it drastic enough in enjoyability to justify waiting a few weeks?

Thank for any feedback and have a great weekend folks

Wait? Duh.

Beta testers have done the 1-50 stretch in ~2 hours. Most casual levelers are doing it in about 8 - 10 hours. Heirlooms are losing their experience buffs but the 1-10 stretch takes 20min and the 10-50 grind appears extremely quick.

To compare, I leveled 1 to 110 in about 38 hours earlier. This was WITHOUT the 100% experience buff we now have, though. But that was with 55% heirloom experience, darkmoon buff, draught and a very intimate familiarity with leveling.

So you choose, 2-8 hours in 2 weeks or 20-40 hours now?

If you like leveling do it.

If not, wait.

The advantage to leveling now is that you aren’t really rushing towards an end game because whatever you get on BFA will be obsolete by Oct 26th. You can take your time to learn all specs and settle into a play style.

I love leveling and have a bunch of alts; I personally am waiting for the new leveling changes to take effect once 9.0 hits. Most of my alts will be living in Pandaria 10-50, which is something I’ve been secretly wishing for for years lol. Being able to choose which expansion to get to max in has me waiting as patiently as I can for pre-patch.

I’m leveling this character at the moment and I’m really enjoying it. If you have the time and enjoy it, I say go for it! If not, I don’t really see the harm in just waiting a little bit longer.

There is currently an exp buff running for 100%.

It depends. If you are bored from BFA and want to do something else until prepatch, i may say do it now. There is still 2-3 weeks left, plenty of time to level up calmly.

Something to take in account is you get most of your core rotation earlier now, with 99% of all your abilities coming before level 70, while in prepatch the abilities are more evenly spread out across the levels. This means a post squish character will be weaker than a character with an equivalent pre squish level, as that character will have some of its abilities moved to higher levels. Some of the affected abilities are part of the very core of the class/spec, like Atonement which is learned at level 23, quite a bit late for such an important part of Disc’s playstyle.

So i may say, if you have time, level up now, at least until level 100, because it is quite fast to reach (specially the Draenor leveling is so freaking fast, im leveling a mechagnome war rn and i went from 90 to 93 with just the intro scenario, and then to level 100 in 2 hours), then when prepatch hits, your character will be at a level where most of its skills are already unlocked, and the last levels will be way faster than on live (currently the slowest level range is 110-120 by a large margin).

Enjoyability I dunno, speed is all most people talk about.

more gear = more damage = faster leveling = 60 faster = back to complain on forums faster :+1:

Leveling now is faster if you have heirlooms and buy xp pots from BFA capital cities combined with the buff.

The 2 hours to max level in beta clickbate videos people saw a month ago was from using an xp pot then dreanor treasure hunting.

That has been hard nerfed and all xp pots are broken = no more xp from them. And heirlooms lost the bonus xp on them. It takes some serious time to go from 1-60 right now in the beta.

In fact if you don’t level in warmode most players are running out of quests at level 58-59. You’re left instance grinding to hit 60 right now.

I’m grinding away. This experience buff + heirlooms is fantastic after playing for all of these years - the levels are just flying by. I’m going to enjoy it while I can. There will be other alts to level up the “new way” in the future.

Yeah, but that’s 50-60, not 1-50.

Wait for pre-patch. I would suggest researching the playstyles of each spec for Shadowlands. Tuning hasn’t happened yet. But find something that might be interesting.

I brought up 4 toons to max level in the beta and it’s the entire process now that bonus xp is gone completely. Not just the 50-60 part. That part is seriously broken leaving most players stuck at level 58 with no more quests to do. But the 1-50 is a chore now as well.

I am waiting. I don’t really want to do the old zones before Warlords of Draenor one more time.

You can level now and continue leveling on the pre patch if you’re not 120 by the time. And if you are, well… toon ready for the pre patch.

The point is it’s 50-60 that’s long, not 1-50. When you say “1-60 takes a long time”, the problem is you’re including the new expansion leveling that’s always very long in a patch x.0.

I’m getting my last toon up to 120 and park ,that way it wouldn’t be too bad the expanse coming.

No, I am saying the 1-50 is long and painful compared to what you can do right now in game. The clickbate videos people keep referencing involved xp manipulations that are not in game anymore. Beta removed all bonus xp and nerf the treasure hunting xp and then took it a step further and nerfed gathering xp as well.

The 50-60 is absolutely broken in this current beta build without enough xp from quests to even hit max level.
