Leveling - lost so many abilities in squish

With the new leveling system I was hoping to finish my my brew master. I lost all motivation when I logged on and found he only had two abilities of the 6 abilities I had previously unlocked while leveling. What happened? I understand the approach of letting you feel rewarded for leveling, however, why take so many abilities away? My lvl 40 brew master became lvl 20 and now has non of the iconic brewmaster abilities. It is just my opinion, but maybe blizz could consider giving a filler ability to make up for this in the future?

It seems like a lot of the abilities are now “monk” abilities base line, you are basically a monk first and brew master second, specing into it gives you a few specific abilities and maybe a new rank on a monk ability other specs don’t have.

I haven’t noticed a lot of missing abilities but I’m looking at it on the broader scale of being a monk. If you just focus in on brew master spell book then ya it looks barren (most tanks do).

I had keg smash, breath of fire, tiger palm, blackout kick and (I’m pretty sure) celestial brew pre-squish at level 40. Now I have tiger palm, blackout kick and some spin kick.

I didn’t say they were gone forever. I meant they were abilities I had that are now taken away until I grind a bunch of levels to get them back. Losing these abilities makes it more difficult to tank, and a chore to level up as.

To play opposition a little since you brought it up. Class fantasy is nice from an RPG prospective. It is not from a game play perspective. You cannot tank without speccing as a brewmaster. You cannot heal without speccing as a mistweaver. You cannot do meaningful dps without speccing as a windwalker. Unless they make it so you can be viable in all content without speccing, being a specific “class” first does not hold up as far as gameplay.

The old leveling system resulted in someone getting most of their kit and then having dozens of levels where they get next to nothing, its annoying that you get less at low level, but almost every level you get something now. Further, leveling takes like 3 to 4 days to get to max level at a casual pace of a few hours a night as opposed to the super grind it used to be.

I don’t mind it.

If you go to wod as your lvling experience you get a xp boost from one of the wod abilities.

Using drought of 10 lands on top you can lvl from 1-50 in wod in 6 hours or IIRC from what I was told

Yea I noticed this same type of thing on my ret paladin. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a good idea at all. I’d rather get my core abilities early and have a good leveling experience, than have an awkward leveling experience but get something new every level. I don’t need that breadcrumb of abilities to keep me engaged… I need solid gameplay!

Also, sure, it takes 3-4 days to get to max level, but that’s not really that great either. The leveling changes were supposed to allow you to experience an expansion’s story, not get a billion alts to cap for now reason.

I’m not sure what happened because the original plan, as advertised, was a more meaningful leveling experience. We did not get that.
