I quit SL in the first week, came back this patch only to remember why I quit in the first place. Scaling is still terrible, my character feels weaker as I gain more levels. Sure the experience is faster, but it's definitely not fun and leads to a faster burn out. I don't think I'm gonna come back until next expansion, where leveling will hopefully be more interesting and not an absolute slog. Especially since reaching max level does not alleviate the problem, it's just as bad if not worse.
Ion’s design is working as intended.
But leveling is fun.
Dont leave your hearthstone on your bank.
You get what he’s saying when there’s no feeling of gaining power as you level up.
Burn out has been the key phrase this expansion.
Blizzard needs to look into this:
Tons of time sinks coupled with stretched out quests (see time sinks) and limited travel (see time sinks) has burnt me for sure.
The scaling and feeling weaker as you gain levels was part of why I quit so early in BFA. And it almost made me quit this xpak too. Gaining levels shouldn’t make you weaker. I’ve gotten to a gear point now where doing basic world content doesn’t feel nearly as chore like but I remember past expaks where you could level and then jump into dailies without feeling like your character hit like wet noodles or died like paper.
When has there ever been a feeling of gaining power when leveling. The entire point is to move on to progressively harder areas and gain levels.
I didn’t read the op’s post because its formatted goofy.
Wrath
Pandaria
Legion
If you didn’t even read OP’s post why bother responding to the thread?
There has always been a sense of power when leveling. Have you never played WoW before scaling was introduced?
Scaling ruined the purpose of leveling up honestly. You level up and somehow every single mob now takes longer to kill until you find more gear.
I killed things the same speed all the way from 50-60. Yes I know our character sheet stats went down but I never really felt it.
The op’s post is 1 side scrolling line. I’ve never seen anything like it but I’m willing to accept it may be phone shenanigans if other people aren’t seeing that. If you are i honestly can’t believe anyone would read their post.
I see it differently. I remember out leveling zones and them really being useless for any progression. Personally love the change. I don’t have that happen anymore and I get gear that is suited to my level in all zones.
probably because you had full heirlooms going. Plus Blizz made the exp needed for levels lower a long time ago (IIRC).
Scaling is such a red herring. Casually thrown out as an argument and spun up to be some big bad bogey man. If things die in 3-4 globals who really cares.
Just recently leveled without them with a friend that came back and still the same sentiment. Sorry but I know plenty who like it this way as well, it’s all a matter of opinion. I don’t miss seeing mobs go grey, skipping entire zones because I focused on X area. Now it carries on with me and rewards me based on my level not some silly bracket that was good.
Few things I’d like to see for leveling:
-
Torghast leveling content from 1-60 with random gear drops at the end of the process.
-
Covenant campaign available from the get go when you choose Threads of Fate.
-
NPC health nerf when below 50. Things can take 10-15 hits sometimes when you enter at level 48.
-
Completion of Heirloom gear sets. Just finish them Blizzard, just do it.
Otherwise, I’m pretty alright with leveling atm.
The borrowed powers are the biggest problem for feeling weaker.
The scaling just serves to exacerbate the issue.
We level up, we lose all our borrowed powers, enemies level with us.
Once all the powers are gone and the Legendary/Artifact are obsolete we are suddenly left feeling weaker.
The lack of new spells/skills/talents along the way also makes it feel like we aren’t gaining anything as we level.
The only good side of scaling is not out-leveling a zone before you finish the quests.
I think scaling should stay out of the current expansion and the borrowed powers need to be toned way way down.
Almost forgot, the jarring jump from 59-60 with secondary scaling also hurts.
Same issue every expansion with that though.
I will never agree that level scaling is good. It has always been a trash bandage for a self inflicted wound. There’s literally no “rewarding” feeling derived from it. Where we are now with Chromie’s time walking stuff (you know, where you can choose what expansion to level up in), scaling entirely worthless and not needed.
Cool.
But people like me exist, and we do. Call it a difference of opinion. I loved it when introduced and still do. Chromie was a great addition for me. I don’t get this “rewarding” thing though, you level to really hit the content at max. I just like a different way to enjoy the journey there than feeling and artificial sense of being powerful because mobs are now grey and we out level most of the content.
What I have experienced recently, your a little demi god until you hit 50. No real danger out there anymore, not like in Classic.
At 51, and each level after, you gradually lose secondary stats, because of this once you hit 60 with the gear you gained along the way, you do feel weaker out in the world than you did at 50.
It does correct itself, after you get higher ilvl gear, it starts to feel like your gaining power again. Crafted 151 gear helps, but you cant put it on till 60.
