Do you all use a Leveling guide (Hand Holding) or do you Quest as intended?
Going from zone to zone?
RXP?
Questie?
ECT?

If you don’t know what you’re doing, a leveling guide will run you straight into likely death. One of the prerequisite skills to successfully doing a hardcore run is knowledge of what quests to do and which quests not to do. What areas to grind out and what areas you shouldn’t stand in, etc.
Leveling guides aren’t up to par on this, yet. I’m sure a hardcore one will be made though eventually.
Questie. RXP literally holds your hand at every single step. The journey is thru the eyes of RXP.
So far I’m running around hitting things and it’s going ok. Just the death log or w/e it’s called.
With a monocle.
I use Questie, along with Leatrix Maps/Plus just to make finding markers on the map easier, but that’s all that is needed. Side note, RestedXp does get a lot of hate, but is absolutely a top tier HC guide/product, and I would honestly recommend it (at least the free version) to people that are playing WoW HC for the first time on official.
At this point I have every quest that I want to do pretty much memorized, I could probably level without a guide at all (maybe my next char!), but that took dozens of HC character playthroughs to get to this point, and at least 20 deaths lol. As a frame of reference, my prior WoW experience was rank grinding in the classic WoW relaunch in 2019, with over 5k hours at that time. I’ve been playing HC WoW since April, and it took me a LOT of deaths to get to this point. No matter how much prior WoW experience you have, do not expect it to be easy without some sort of guide.
I use questie to find the pockets of mobs 20 other people aren’t hitting really.
Recent work on lower levelers, over time with work done on 80’s I have in wrath…the way was here already. I know when its time for 1000 needles, STV, etc.
Its classic not scaled like retail wow. There are few paths here. All will go to STV. and many classic side know well south of that map is off limits for a good while. You go kill animals and trolls in the northern part of the map first.
I go in blind , no add on, no nothing just my old mind to remember where to go from 05.
Haven’t played since '19, and that was just to speed race the opening. Quit playing within 2 weeks just because I had other things to do. That being said, I’ve heard all about this RestedXP addon. I did end up getting it. It was so horrendously bad, I can’t believe it’s still a thing. I can see suckering people to try something, but once they’ve seen what it is, you’d think they get rid of it asap. I was literally shocked by how bad that guide was.
Just using Questie now for convenience.
free-form for me.
I got a free premium version of RXP just to see what it’s about.
Skipped some parts of it and also picked up some quests that All the Things lists that RXP has you ignore.
My favorite is when it wants you to go look at someone’s YouTube channel. Skip.
Not exactly a leveling guide, but I tend to use Questie.
We had some awesome questing addons back in the day.
If we weren’t intended to use addons, Blizz would have broken them all long ago.
I’ve been using the Voiceover addon and just listening to the quest text now.
It’s been pretty good, but also has had some hiccups.
I may enable quest or at some point but for the human/dwarf sub 30 zones I don’t need it. If I get higher it’ll be more likely that I turn it on lol.
Or Blizzard would have allowed me to track more than FIVE quests at a time with the native ui.
Only reason I have Questie. Pretty much all its other functions are disabled.
The fact that you can move the tracking window around is worth the price of admission.
Not everyone is a masochist if you view a leveling guide as “hand holding”.
That too.
Stock ui is so 2004.
It’s also nice to know whether the mobs you are killing actually drop the required quest item, noting Classic’s notoriously vague quest instructions paired with poor drop rates.
But the forums are from the future!
