Leveling gear

Hey all,

So i was curious earlier and looked around for a few guides but didn’t come up with anything concrete. I was looking for a resource which outlined what sort of gear a warrior should try and get (specifically roll on/pass on) while leveling?

I know it isn’t as cut and dry as it is in current WoW and i don’t want to pass on things that i could really use, or need on something that isn’t all that great which could benefit someone else. I’ve seen a stat priority listed as Str -> Stam mail up until 40 and agi -> str -> stam after 40 up until you cap, but that’s all I’ve been able to find.

Assuming plate gear isn’t plentiful as soon as i hit 40, hypothetically would it be seen as rude of me to also need on Agi -> stam mail gear that is an upgrade? I just don’t want to upset people by taking things they can use but i also want to give myself a fair shot at loot upgrades and look after my own character.

Any advice for leveling warriors to discern between upgrades and non-upgrades? Are there any good rules to follow for stats? Especially with loot competition from non-warriors in the group, who for arguments sake, i probably don’t know?

Best option, but this is opinion is craft your own and take your time…

for a tank always go with AC and STA… that is going to be your bread and butter for a while

Str > Stm > spirit > agi

I think this is close, I could be wrong.

Err no. Str>Agi>Sta>Spirit.

You’ll take any combination of STR/AGI/STA, whichever item is best. It’s usually not a choice. 1 item will clearly be better than the other. Don’t worry about the value of each stat. A real concern however is the actual armor of the item. You should wear the heaviest armor whenever possible. The higher armor value is usually worth it. Good mail can sometimes worth it over plate, but leather never is. Until you are raiding at 60, armor is a highly valuable stat.

Even pieces of leather will be an upgrade for you at some point. The question is are you willing to pass on it just so the rogue who can only use leather can have it?

The way I see it is if its going to be an upgrade and I can use it I will roll need. Im playing a hunter so ill be fighting everyone for weapons.

This type of person was always the worst to play with.

STR translates in to Attack Power, more AP == more ouchies.

AGI translates roughly in to Crit, which is always nice as it’s a direct percentage DPS boost.

STA is health.

SPI is essentially unnecessary.

Honestly, when early leveling, I’d rather have STR and STA than AGI. STR is also Blocking (does AGI tie in to dodge/parry?) if you plan to use a shield much. In the end, THE tank stat is none of the above. The stat for tanks is Defense, until it’s capped. Defense prevents getting clobbered by mobs and bosses. But you won’t see much of that for some time.

There are breakpoints all over the place, but I wouldn’t worry about them until end game either, frankly.

Finally, in all of my Vanilla WoW-ness, no piece of gear has ever saved myself, or my group except, perhaps, twice.

By that I mean simply that when I get killed, I get KILLED. Hard. It’s no chance. In only two fights that I recall did I survive within a margin of a piece of gear or a talent (like with 12 health remaining, meaning +1 STA was the difference between life or death).

Other than that, I/the group either decisively won the battle or I/we were decisively clobbered.

So, in the end, gear is important, especially for warriors. But it’s not THAT important. (No, I don’t PvP.)

Character Level is your single most important stat until 60 – everything else is gravy. Just take the nicest looking quest reward you can see. Avoid SPI. And don’t sweat the details too much.
