Leveling Earthen with Exploration: Use Chromie time

When you’re leveling an Earthen using exploration, you definitely want to make use of Chromie time. If you don’t, the amount of experience you gain from exploration can decrease significantly and some won’t give you experience at all. Using Chromie time will make sure you get the max amount of experience no matter where you decide to go.

Ha! This sounds fun. Go through chromie time just to level with exploration.

After playing for over 15 years, I am actually still seeing things I don’t recall seeing before. lol.

How far does exploring get you? I levels, I mean.

And what’s your warband buff at?

Hey me too! I felt compelled to snag a screenshot the other day of this part of stonetalon.

This random empty hut here. But the part of on the map I circled, I was just fascinated by it because it was just so empty. Just a forested area. Not particularly heavily forested. Just a part of the world that isn’t really for us. It’s an interesting thing going around and seeing the old zones again. There’s a noticeable amount of places where they just exist to be part of the world. Places that most people probably never go to. Newer zones they make a point of filling basically every corner with things for us to do. But the original world had so much room to spread out.

So far I’ve explored eastern kingdoms, kalimdor, kul tiras/zandalar, and the dragon isles, and I’m level 63. So there’s pandaria, northrend, the broken isles, outland and draenor. I don’t know if the exploration xp goes down dramatically after level 70, but at the moment it seems like I can easily get all the way to 80 like this.

5%. Still only the one guy. But earthen get bonus experience for exploring. 200% extra! Holy crap, I just looked at the spell in my spellbook! I knew they had a bonus but I didn’t realise it was that much :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh actually I did do some quests. I did the faction thing in kul tiras where you establish a settlement in a zone in zandalar. So I did the quests for that in vol’dun as I wanted the ferry back. But other than that just exploring.

It’s not actually fast though. I’m close 12 hours I’d say. That’s my /played but with random afk breaks here and there, who can say? The game isn’t always immediate with registering you discovering a place, so you find yourself circling the same spot for a while sometimes. So yeah, not the fastest, but it is very chill. I’ve just been watching youtube as I fly about. And it has been really nifty to visit zones I haven’t seen in many years.

Hmmmm. I might have to try leveling through exploration to see how far I can get

Same. It may not be fast but it’s my kind of leveling.

Cool idea but for exploration I prefer…

Well I just hit 71 and got booted out of Chromie time. I forgot that that happens. Anyway, 70-71 was indeed much, much slower. Same exp from discovering places but of course the required exp per level has now gone up. Obviously! Still I stuck with it for that last level, just for a laugh.

I ended up zipping around northrend. Just managed to get through every zone before 71. Holy hell it’s amazing seeing that place again! What an incredible continent! I remember being fed up with it before world scaling and Chromie time became a thing, as I’d had to play through it so many times. I hadn’t really been back since. But seeing it today from up in the sky, with the vastly improved draw distance. I was honestly feeling kind of moved. The scale of the zones, the detail, the number of settlements and towns, the landscape. And of course the nostalgia. You really feel how much love went into that expansion.

I went from 30 to 71 on my Earthen warrior flying around discovering zones and stuff in Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and Outland in ~3 hours. Ish.

Managed to squeeze a level out of Dragonflight zones. So up to 72 now. Working on TWW zones now - oddly enough Isle of Dorn gave me absolutely zero xp but the other three zones still seem to be giving discovery xp as intended.

EDIT: Correction, it appears that Azj’Kahet isn’t giving any discovery xp either similar to Isle of Dorn. So for TWW zones it’s just Ringing Deeps and Hallowfall that gives discovery xp, at least in my experience.

I was getting some in Shadowlands, here and there. So I’m not too sure what triggers getting XP, vs not. I was normally doing slow flying in Bastion and Maldraxxas. Then, a few minutes ago, I decided to switch to skyriding and went through Ardenweald, uncovering all areas. Didn’t get any XP at all. So I’m not too sure what the reason is. I did notice that for the exploring achievements, they are warband now, so I can’t even select a zone to track my progress on my Earthen.

Anyway, a bit confused by the parameters of what allows XP vs not for exploration. Also, I do not have the heirlooms to unlock all of the zones, so it’s not related to that.

I’ve never seen the Maghar village in hellfire peninsula.

I’ve played that zone countless times

I got to level 70 in 5 hours just flying around.

After switching to Chromie time, I was able to get to 70.5 before realizing a noticeable drop in xp gain compared to my level. Hadn’t even explored WOD yet. Levels generally took between 4-6 min depending on how close zones were and how much there was to discover in each zone.

Level 69-70 took 78,750xp
To level from 70-71 takes 225,105xp

When xp from discovering was about 3600xp roughly per zone, that 225k is gonna take a lot longer so at that point questing and dungeons is likely the better option.

You need to be on Chromie time in the appropriate zone. For instance, I had been exploring in Dragon Isles and then hearthed to the garrison. First newly explored area of Draenor netted me 204 xp… Then after resetting my Chromie time to Pandaria and exploring in Pandaria, my first xp (at lvl 66) was 9900. Also, very interesting - when I hit 68, I got Jaina’s quest to go to Silithus. I also apparently lost the double xp.
