Leveling Changes Do Not Effect Experience

Because people are freaking out and having a meltdown over absolutely nothing, the leveling changes (according to the blue post) are /only/ for adjusting the power level of mobs as you’re level 70 to better adjust to the current gear people are wearing.

IT DOES NOT CHANGE HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE YOU GET. DEAR LORD HAVE MERCY. YOU WILL LEVEL THE SAME RATE AS THE REST OF US DID IN EA.

Editing this as a summary of what’s been discussed:
This post was made to make it clear that there was no direct EXP changes for those who were confused.

Regardless, there is indeed something to be said about time being money and how long you spend on a mob can amount to an overall slower time leveling. However, these are the points I made to settle that argument from my perspective and with the information provided in the blue post. I may end up eating my words though but if I do, I’ll edit it again:

  1. they didn’t provide any exact numbers of how exactly they were going to buff mobs to make it slower. For all we know, it could be a 2% difference. Hold onto your rage until the changes are actually made.
  2. the buffs to mobs will be provided in a scaling curve, so it will drop off probably around 75 and keep leveling unchanged after that point (in my personal opinion of how I think they’ll implement it).
  3. the speed at which we’re leveling is already horrifically fast, and with the tier set buffs still being applied up until 80, the actual DPS people are putting out will be unchanged. We will still be melting through mobs and getting to level 80 in around 2-3 hours still by spamming dungeons. There will not be a noticeable change to how fast we’re leveling overall.

Because time is money… friend haha

You’re only considering exp value but you’re ignoring the enjoyment of leveling at the current pase. It’s not for everyone but a lot of players like the current power level in their low characters.

Yes it does.

If it takes you twice as long to kill each mob in a dungeon, will you level faster, slower or the same speed?

If each pull has to be smaller, will you level faster, slower or the same rate?

If I kill 10 mobs in 10 seconds for 100 XP each that is 100 xp per second.

If I can only kill 6 mobs in 10 seconds for 100 xp each, that is only 60 xp per second.

So while it is not a direct nerf to XP it is fair to call it a nerf to leveling.

Not a big deal alone, but the timing with EA ending and the nerf coming hard on it’s heels, makes it feel bad.

Mostly just another unintended consequence of tainting the release with EA, but it’s not nothing.

if the ttk is increased, the xp/hr is decreased, in terms of both total kills and quests completed and thus the time it takes to lvl goes up accordingly…you do not have to nerf exp directly to nerf the rate at which its earned

Sounds like a l2p issue.

I can promise you, with my WHOLE being, the changes will not be enough for mobs to put a considerable amount of change in the actual speed of leveling, if at all. They didn’t even say how much /exactly/ they’ll be increasing the health or damage of enemies. People are jumping to assumptions that it’ll be as slow as classic, when right now, dungeons take max five minutes. It might increase to, what, six minutes? Seven minutes? Especially since raid tier set buffs won’t be shut off until 80. The differences will not be noticeable and the current outrage is overdramatic.

Let’s say you can do a dungeon in 5 minutes, and it rewards 100k xp, that’s 12 runs per hour for 1.2kk xp per hour

Now let’s say it’s 7 minutes per run, that’s 8.6 runs, or 860k xp per hour that is a 29% reduction, and blizzard tends to hammer things when they fix them, I wouldn’t doubt if they double dungeon run time

I bet nobody would have even noticed this change if they hadn’t made a post about it.

This is blizzard, when it comes to tuning the only tool they have is a sledgehammer

Just saying, it would have been noticed. Ironically mostly by the those that started on the 22nd.

Said the exact same think in the main thread.

Here’s the thing, you won’t be sitting there counting the difference in how much experience you’re getting for every mob, and then for every dungeon. It’ll be how fast you feel you’re going, and there won’t be much of a change because there’s another thing people are forgetting – it’ll scale down the higher level you get, so eventually, there will be no change to the mobs, and thus, no change to the leveling experience. You will still be able to level up in a minimal amount of time by spamming dungeons at the rate people are doing them now.

They could increase the exp required by 20% and reduce all exp by 20% and it would still be the fastest leveling has ever been. It’s insane.

I was level 80 before I left the second zone…

Right?? Like, people don’t realize how /crazy/ fast it is. The reduction we’re probably looking at is minimally a 5% decrease if that. It’s never been this fast before in an expac.

You’d be leveling 29% slower in that scenario…

If it even is a 2 minute increase in dungeon time. Again, we don’t know how much they’re nerfing it. I was literally just throwing out a possible scenario. We’re jumping to conclusions when we have /zero/ numbers for actual comparison.

Shhh… math is hard to understand.

Experience per hour is a thing, and it does effect “experience”. It does make leveling slower/take longer.

But they rather stand in 1 spot and hit a mob 5-10 times vs 1-3 times because “reasons”

This. Im 76 and in the second zone and id be 80 now if i didnt get slapped with the no xp bug before scheduled down this morning

It’s blizzard, I can almost guarantee double the time
