Stay in classic. Your the minority. No one cares how you want your leveling experience. They did it right.
Can’t play TBC content in Classic.
Wtf lol i prefer this lvling, guy i dont want to stay 1 month lvling my char (took me 1 month to lvling my mage in bfa) now just took me 3 days to lvl a warlock doing just a couple of dungeon and wod content
To be clear you guys prefer the 8 hour borefest we have today vs. the 15 hour hulk-smash we came from.
Not going to lie this new leveling experience is one of extremely boring.
Maybe mileage varies by class, but DH’s feel terrible at low levels.
The leveling experience in Shadowlands is fine. By the way, when they said ‘reaching a new level should feel more meaningful’ they were specifically talking about ability/talent rewards, not your effective power against other mobs.
Prior to this change you earned talents every 15 levels and abilities every now and then, meaning that most of the time when you levelled up, you got nothing but a flashy animation and a sound letting you know you levelled.
Now you earn talents every 5 levels after level 25 and you gain new abilities or passive bonuses every few levels as well.
Dear Blizzard,
This post 100%.
Exile’s Reach, albeit short, was great to play through. But what the OP said is truth.
That seems to be the go-to counter argument for these kinds of things when it’s not even close to being a viable solution.
Classic does not even compare in terms of content, you’re literally hamster running on a hamster wheel day in, day out, and amazingly enough, they never seem to get bored of it.
In other words, once you have done everything to do in that game that you’re interested in doing, there’s pretty much nothing else. People blew Classic way out of proportion in terms of reaching goals when in reality, there is nothing to it, it’s like the game critics that think games like Dark Souls is hard.
na ratios don’t lie, friend.
you just like being an edgelord
I skipped the last 60-or-so posts, so forgive me if I’m rehashing old ground, but if the only relevant content is at endgame, why even have levels at all? Why not just start the game at level 50 (60 soon) and then if you want to relive old content, go do that? Because that’s stupid (and they have to sell those level boosts.). Levelling should give a feeling of accomplishment. You just sunk however many hours into the game, you should feel rewarded for this. Otherwise, just to reiterate, they might as well get rid of levels altogether.
That’s a fair and valid viewpoint to have, but I don’t think you speak for the majority of players. I enjoy the balanced experience and can’t stand classic levelling. All personal preference
Its not possible to recreate classic leveling in modern wow. Classic had more Spell/ability ranks, lower quality gear, fewer abilities/cds to use, higher distance aggro mobs, pathers, longer leashes on mobs, runners, tighter groups of mobs, etc.
After cata and Before level scaling it was just one shot mobs at same level and quests going gray.
Edit: I will say blizz could stand to make mobs do a bit more damage. But I dont think they can do it piecemeal. They have to do it across the board including dungeons and that is problematic.
I agree with you OP, but we’re well and truly in lazy maintenance mode for wow now, scaling makes it easy for the devs.
I mostly like the way it is now… I understand the feeling of “Icecrown should have harder mobs than Howling Fjord” and I hope that is true, I think Icecrown has a minimum level higher than Howling Fjord anyway, but it is nice to have the ability to level in any zone I like. I don’t really want to spend time killing gray exp mobs with my overleveled abilities for fun, and as you level you get new abilities and upgrades to abilities so it’s not true that leveling means no power gains.
chrisp
Yea I think scaling was one of those ‘seemed good on paper’ ideas. I will say I enjoyed Classic’s leveling a hell of a lot more, but because the static levels also effected other gameplay elements like making sure your gear was up to date or like you said making your own difficulty by choosing area’s you feel comfortable with.
I agree. Too many of the people who are making the game are challenge players, i.e. they play for challenges. They totally don’t have a clue about character or power progression. If they did they would never have introduced all this zone scaling, ilvl scaling, borrowed power systems, and all that nonsense.
I don’t see that at all. You still get stronger while levelling as you gain more and more tools (abilities/talents) to deal with various situations even if your “power level” stays relative to everything else number wise.
Main problem with that design is that the base difficulty is tuned so low that you hardly ever need to use these tools.
It would work a lot better if like in classic pulling multiple at level mobs was actually dangerous or if elite zones were still a thing etc.
personally, levelling to me is just the boring junk you have to do before you can play the game. that’s been the case since the first time i reached level cap back in vanilla.
i hate levelling. the new levelling system is easier and therefore more boring, but at least it’s faster… but not fast enough for my liking. i’d happily pay for the boosts, but i can’t if i want to unlock the allied race transmogs
I asked for mob scaling to be fixed so that we can fight mobs higher or lower than our level while leveling, and somehow you translated that into extending the leveling to months. So much for reading comprehension.
This guy gets it. I never asked for all of Classic leveling to be brought back. I just want the best part of Classic leveling to be brought back.
Exactly. As the system exists now, why even have us progress through any expansions? Just have Exile’s Reach for new players, and from then on, put players at the starting line for the latest content! This mess that has us at a consistent power level from 10 through 50 is pointless. Who cares if we get more skills along the way? The mobs get stronger to compensate! I’m still taking 1 minute to kill the same wolf that was taking me a minute at level 5. The difference is that I’m executing a much more complex rotation to do it. If anything, I’ve gotten even less powerful. It’s freaking boring. All these people saying to “Go back to Classic” are completely missing the point of the post.
And that’s why players like you should be given the option to skip leveling completely for in-game gold. I don’t know how cutting the system down to seven hours of grinding through mobs that are always at our level is fixing it for everyone. Players like you are still bored for seven hours, and players who were previously engaged are now just as bored. It’s a lose-lose proposition for everyone.
OP is 100% correct. There is no sense of progression in the game any longer. You don’t get more powerful to the world or npcs around you. Quests don’t get easier. Even things like the crappy ‘talent’ system have been gutted to the point where you don’t make choices anymore. Not nearly as often anyway.
Seriously…what is the point of even having levels if everything is scaled to you? It’s just an illusion. What a terrible system in an rpg.
Eff leveling in retail.
