Leveling as a Healer

Hey guys I have a question. Which class has it easiest to level as a healer? Mostly focusing quests with dungeons in-between. I’m stuck between a holy priest and resto druid. (I don’t really care for shaman or pally)

So between holy priest and resto druid which one has it easier?

I would choose the priest. I leveled this druid to 60 to heal, but I wish I had leveled a priest, instead. Better healer and much preferred. Druid is more flexible while leveling and probably a bit faster than priest, but priest leveling is pretty good once you can go shadow.

I also recommend priest. Buy a wand early and go shadow, the base toolkit is more than you need to heal anything on the way to 60.

Between wands (starting at level 5) and the self-shield, priests have no problem solo questing.

I’m an altoholic, so I am leveling both. I have both at 36-40 in Classic. I rarely heal groups, with either, though I can at these levels. So far, Priest has been easier.

Personally I liked Disc Priest in retail, and my spec is a mix in Classic. But I agree – you don’t have to be healer-subspec to heal dungeon groups while leveling.

Would def say priest has it the easiest you can get wand spec and then go into holy tree and focus on talents that help heal and dmg and you can do fine. Really if you spec holy dmg you will still be able to heal perfectly fine and you will quest a lot nicer.

Priest. 5/5 Shadow tap, then 5/5 wand spec and you can level as discipline easily. You can pick up some great healing and efficiency talents in the discipline tree down to about holy spirit or so. Then, you can dip into holy for some crit, benefits to your healing spells, and even some benefits to smite and holy fire if you like.

Shadow is fine too, you’re just more mana hungry as shadow. You will have a faster kill speed, but need to drink more. Discipline/holy’s kill speed is about as fast but it doesn’t have to stop because you wand a LOT and while doing that you are regenerating mana.

Paladin would have honorary mention. It’s very steady killing as holy, but very monotonous.

Def wanna do 5/5 wand before 5/5 spirit tap
Wand dmg will help you a lot more 10-14 than Spirit tap will, at those levels you really do not have that bad of mana issues especially if you get a lesser/greater magic wand at lvl 5 and 13 they are super cheap and should be easy to get.

I just topped out a holy priest and it wasn’t bad at all. Pop of my server is kinda small and boosting just wasn’t available, so I quested for most of my xp. Sure stuff died slower, but it wasn’t as intense in most scenarios where it would normally mean a death tun back. Respawns were a problem .

Wanding is easy, but it gets very boring.

You can heal dungeons just as fine as a dps spec while being far greater at leveling by yourself.

I know it’s not one of the choices…but…Shaman, I leveled as a hybrid spec ele/resto and I did amazing dps and heals depending on what I needed. I respec’d full resto at 60

Priest soloing boils down to a few initial casts & then retreating under PW:Shield to wand down the rest. Spirit Tap kicks in & then rinse & repeat. Boring, but virtually no downtime on single-pulls.

Druids have a bit more options for solo/leveling. I leveled my Druid as 14 Resto (for Insect Swarm & Inner Focus) & the rest Balance most of the way, & then played around with a Feral-Bear/Resto build in my 50’s & up to 60. Both worked fine. The caster spec method was more like a Priest, except that I was auto-attacking & using Thorns instead of wanding while using PW:Shield, after the initial Starfire pull, Moonfire & Insect Swarm (with possibly another DoT after initial ones fell off). The caster Druid required more drinking that my Priest with Spirit Tap, even with using Innervate after every cooldown, but it wasn’t horrible or anything.

As someone else mentioned, any Priest/Druid spec can heal dungeon content just fine, assuming that you have plenty of Intelligence (& Spirit to lesser degree) stat on your gear set while doing the healing role.
