Leveling a melee after 17+ days /played caster is certainly something

Can i just land more than two hits in a row without missing? I can never mathematically deduce how much time/abilities i’d need to kill something, so random.

Get a better sword.

Melee solo leveling is pretty awful, but it’s worth it.

Ranged is always going to have it easier than melee any game.

well, in retail melee have it easier. Atleast for me. Maybe because i’ve played demon hunter there and now i’m a shadow priest in classic.

That’s because Blizzard changed the way abilities work for melee – yellow damage cannot miss (with a few exceptions). This was the compromise they made when removing Hit and Expertise from the game.

Additionally, melee damage in Classic consists much more heavily of white damage, while white damage is only a tiny fraction of overall output in retail and has been for several expansions.

It’s a question of design philosophies. It feels like utter shyte to build resource (rage, combo points, etc) and waste a chunk of those resources because your active abilities miss, or are dodged/parried. It also feels like utter shyte to look at your damage breakdown and realize that the majority of it involved nothing more than right-clicking on a target (or pressing T, whichever) and standing in the right place.

IMO, class design in Retail is better than in Classic – and I know that’s a controversial opinion. The problem with retail isn’t class design, though – it’s in reward structure and challenge.

Edit - Just to cite a specific example here…

Vengeance DH is fun as hell. Like, stupidly fun. It can do a lot, and what it can do feels great when done well.

The world isn’t punishing or challenging. Rewards are too easy to obtain and there’s too much variety to them. In Classic, depending on your class and/or questing path, you can go 10+ levels using the same weapon.

Aside from heirlooms, that is absolutely unthinkable in Retail. Gear is less meaningful outside of BiS because it is too easily replaced.

dont level fury

Just fight mobs lower level than you unless you’re a hunter. The end.

I mean, I’m leveling a rogue right now, and–sure–I miss a lot, but it’s not ugly by any stretch.

Level a priest…then talk to me about how awful it is to level a melee class in a DPS spec. My rogue feels like super easy mode after leveling a priest.

Having said that, if you want to roll a caster…omg, go warlock. Leveling on a warlock is a total bulldozer face roll. From level 2–yes, level 2–you can pull 3 mobs at once. By level 10, you can chain pull without stopping for 6-7 mobs at a time. Dot…pet on one. Dot…fear. Dot…pet on third mob. Dot…fear. Repeat. I got from level 1-14 in one afternoon. It. Is. Insane.

Go lock.

i am 60 shadow priest. And it was extremely easy.

I thought so, too. Until I started leveling my rogue. There’s no comparison in the first 40 levels.

I love shadow priesting, and I’m not dogging it. But rogue leveling is faster, and lock leveling is a freight train with a jet engine.

Welcome to the home of the underdogs, where you are either a Rogue or a nobody. Where one miss ensures that you die against a mob and you are at the mercy of RNGeesus until you can gather enough pre-raid BiS with hit chance that you actually hit things consistently.

Or you reroll Human and grab some swords.

Get those weapon skills up

Priest is the easiest class to level, except for all the other ones.

I’ve become convinced the harder I smack my ferocious bite button, the more likely it will actually hit.

No more pooling up 100 energy then spamming misses until the mob eventually dies from auto attacks, now I just try to break the 4 key for the +hit boost.

i can literally shield+pain+wand to kill enemies without losing health or mana. Even right now at 60

I could kill elites for quests solo (took full mana, but for quests with just one elite it’s enough, MokRash and Negolash were a joke) and i’ve never been drinking mana on leveling. Priest levelin was such a chill experience. And also no one could ever gank me, because shadow priest in pvp is broken even on leveling, SWP just does too much damage and extra armor is a king (not to mention being an undead with devouring plague that heals me, lulz)

And how long does it take?

Every class can kill enemies. It would be pretty inconvenient if they couldn’t. Wanding an enemy to death is the slowest way to kill in the game. Priests do it because they have no choice, every other class kills faster (maybe not Paladin).

I don’t know, i do that in alt tab sitting on forum. That’s how i have 3k posts just from classic release

Played melee for years, as warrior, rogue and feral. They’re pretty fun in pvp, but I’d never play melee again except for an arena alt on retail (or maybe later classic expansions)

dude i swear while leveling, especially in the 30s and 40s… i missed ferocious bite more than i hit it. not joking i could miss that ability 3-5 times IN A ROW on the same mob. it was insane.
