Leveling a Healing Priest through BGs

I feel like Holy is more straitforward, and I cannot seem to get the “Atonement+Damage=Top the meters” for the life of me.

Is one spec substantially better than another? I main rShaman if it makes any difference.

I love disc healing. I thought I wouldn’t like it because they took away shield spam but they really have a good dps if you can set them up. I leveled 2 of them and played BGs while leveling, I tried holy but didn’t like the lack of damage. Out of the healers I’ve played in leveling BGs, never got to play my shaman until max level and I have an RDruid scheduled, disc for me is the best.

Atonement is an important part of disc priest healing but they also direct heal the same as other healers.

I looked for a guide on Disc and it was from late Shadowlands. It advised taking Trinity and shielding everything you can, then (i think) it was spam smite. Is that about right?

Also, would you mind sharing a build + pvp talents?

Cant post links

But if you goigle icy-veins “discipline-priest-pvp-talents-and-builds”

You should get a guide with 2 different builds to handle various scenarios.

Wanted to show my current project but since I didn’t play for most of SL I haven’t updated her in a while.

I went through my usual source for leveling PvP, but with the start of the expansion there aren’t a lot of updated builds. Still a lot of useful info, try to look through any armories to see how they’re building (remove the “~” from the link).

Stat weights vary as spells become available but it looks like vers>haste early and max. Here is the page Tidyshots references.

I also like to review leader boards to see where I’m going with my equipment. Aas you level things will change so there really isn’t a single source. The thing about taking your time leveling is you get to try things out as they become available and see how they work. Sometimes, terrible spells at 70 are good spells at 25.

I found Disc atonement this season often accounts for a much smaller percentage of healing than in previous expansions/seasons.

Generally my top three are Radiance, Shield, and Penance.

Trinity’s mechanic has changed now that Shield has a CD again.

I run with Trinity, as do a few other higher level Discs, though it has its own setup and rotation. You probably wont find any info about it on Icy Veins though.

Yeah, probably not the best time to be a priest but, tbh, I suspect they’ll nerf them as I feel too much like I’m running around on my lock rather than a healer. There are ramps now whereas before it was priority, I wasn’t planning on making a disc as a primary BG healer but it’s like that scene in the movie Platoon where he’s just running through the enemies and killing them.

I used to take all the shield buffs I could and spam shield. The early shields stopped a lot of rogue and MM 1-shot problems. Always busy, disc ran around the BG spamming instants to avoid kicks or fed one school to free cast another and had the best escapes giving it the reputation of being the tankiest of healers. It’s like those cartoons where everyone piles up on Bugs Bunny and are pummeling something while Bugs is standing outside the pile giving them weapons to use. That’s disc play for me but with the shield CD it will need to change.

Im rolling another healer only because i feel like the community needs as many healers as it can get.

Since theres no info, should i just wing it and figure it out along the way?

About the same in my experience in BGs… also, Icy Veins seem to offer only builds for arena and tend to ignore BG builds altogether, which I is what I prefer mostly. I’m usually holy on horde, and running disc on alliance , https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/us/dalaran/knopka , for any reference…

You’re a leveling character so you can play around with abilities as they become available. Hopefully they’ll get the armory fixed soon so it’ll be easier to look at different builds in your bracket, I couldn’t even get people on the arena ladder to pull up.

I’m a little behind this expansion, I’m sure some others could offer better advice. Keep shield spam up but, since there’s a CD now, prioritize keeping it up on yourself then whoever is getting focused. Renew is new spammable for down time, it, atonement, and shield are 15 sec so you have that buffer for rogue assaults or MM 1-shots. Power word radiance to apply atonement for 10 sec during an execute.

The ramps are what make it feel like your playing a dps character, even without the big spell ending they do ramp up dps. I keep up purge on stealth classes, schism penance smitex4 mind games penance but you’ll probably end up just casting as things come off CD when you mix in various direct heals (shield renew flash). PW: Barrier plays out like healing rain, the power words or the mechanical equivalent of totems or blessings as what you’ll need to get good with if you want to play right.

I took tailoring for the nets since we lack an interrupt if you don’t count psychic scream. On my other disc I have engineering for the tinkers, they really help with escapes. Don’t forget dispel magic, it’s like our version of purge. I went from shaman to disc healing (with a slight detour through Pallytown), I think you’ll appreciate the on demand damage difference like I did.

it just started leveling an hpriest, its pretty chill but a big part of your kit ‘holy words’ doesn’t come online until level 26.

What level are you abouts? I tuned my disc very damage oriented and it’s almost like a half dps while simultaneously healing well.

I’ve been using this for more attack style healing and damage:

Tried out a different setup in 1900-2k MMR RBGs today, and manage to get Atonement as being top healing, just a little ahead of Radiance.

Mostly from using Twilight Equilibrium and weaving between Smite and one of the shadow school spells (Schism, Mindblast, Mindgames), to apply the +15% damage to everything.

atonement is a meme in pvp. your main healing is shield, penance, radiance in that order. if it’s your top healing then your other healers were working overtime for your mediocre damage or you were just a better team already so you can just push damage buttons.

it’s like moonfire/sunfire spam. it’s showing numbers, but it’s actually not doing anything as it’s spread between half the planet.

I thought he was building one, sorry. I had more to say in my scenario, if my highest skill level had a name it’d be “experienced random BGer”.

When they started atonement I was worried about the mechanic and I put my disc priest on the back burner when I’d planned they would be my primary. After playing HPal a bit I broke down and started doing disc BGs again and realized it mostly played the same as it always did. Cool down on the shield, that actually impacts my play style more.

Maybe I do penance wrong, I hardly ever use it to heal except through atonement or emergencies. Mind you, sometimes there are a lot of emergencies. EDIT: If there’s only 1 taking damage is probably the most common use scenario.

Thanks
