Leveling 20-110

About to unlock Void Elves and the Light Forged Draenei races (they seem to be repping up almost at the same amount). For the VE’s, I want to unlock the racial armor, so will level up a toon to 110 to do this. Figured something I know well and do this with my hunter.

Im guessing the fast track way would be running dungeons over and over (and over) with all my heirloom gear. Would this be correct? Also, does it matter what spec? Im enjoying Survival, so figured id run that.

I haven’t leveled an allied race since the nerf so I’ll be interested in this answer too.

Actually doing quests is proven faster than dungeon spamming. But feel free to que for said dungeon to help break up the boredom of questing as the 1st time of a dungeon really gives a huge chunk of XP

As alliance i would dungeon + quest to 60 then quest 60-90. 90-98 bonus objectives and the invasions 98-110

Add “treasures” to the “bonus objectives” for 90-98, and I push that to 100 unless there’s an active invasion up when I hit 98.

Dungeon spamming is the worst way now. unless they reverted a few of the changes since 7.3.5. Not only for xp reasons, but dungeon que times are atrocious now for leveling dungeons. Have not seen a dungeon que time less than 20 minutes since that patch. Yesterday evening the que times were 32 minutes. Imho they need to either buff the end of dungeon xp you get to make them more lucrative to where folks want to run them again. Opinion anyways.

I would buy yourself some of the new bind-on-account XP potions and quest. Would be much more enjoyable and faster than dungeon spam.

Turn on Warmode for another 15%, you’ll be fine.

Run the spec you have full heirlooms for and that you won’t get bored to tears with. For me personally, I have almost all of them so I switch specs multiple times while leveling to keep things fresh.

And yes, turn on Warmode - there are plenty of low-traffic zones you can avoid the other faction in (if that’s your bag.)

They nerfed the amount of experience needed since this patch.

I wen’t from 20 to 92 (forum avatar is still saying 76 for some reason) in as little as a few hours a week playing for the last month as survival. I wasn’t even trying, but it feels almost effortless compared to other classes I’ve leveled in the last year or so. I have been super casual playing this hunter.

I did a healthy mix of dungeons and questing, but questing is moving the bar much faster IMO.

but I do believe if you’re going to go hunter, SV is the spec for leveling.

I forgot about this, since I was unsubbed until about mid January.

Dungeons are a VERY slow way to level these days … at least once you hit about 80-90. I have a toon I’m leveling now and MoP dungeons feel painfully slow. I’d rather just quest and I’ve done the quests so many times by this point those drag on, too. Maybe the xp is better if you use the dungeon finder, but I hate leveling with LFD. I prefer to just get run through by a higher level. Not like I don’t know how to play the class. I have every class (some multiples) at 110+.

Good to know. Thanks everybody. XP was nerfed hard. With full heirlooms and warmode, its probably blink and miss a level up. I havent leveled up a new character in a number of years. So it should be interesting to see.

What’s the WM exp increase for Alliance these days? Questing has generally been a bit faster than dungeon leveling these days. Quest for as long as you can, and then queue up for a dungeon when you start needing a break.

Also, if WM On concerns you, just avoid zones where heavy cross faction stuff occurs. This is easy to do from 20-60. My best example of that would be Stranglethorn Vale, avoid there. The horde doesn’t have much “quick” access to the center of Eastern Kingdoms.

As a horde player, there are places I never even think about going, and I almost never see my friends/guildies go there either. Westfall, Loch Modan, Badlands, Searing Gorge, Burning Steppes. Yes, you will inevitably run into some horde out there. But the % increase from WM on will outweigh the few horde run-ins you have.

They have. They’ve made it quicker to level and adding dungeons into questing for the dungeon quests has proven pretty quick and easy.

Havent checked with the reset, but its been 15% the last 2 weeks. Im sure they send you to SW after the intro, so Ill probably do Westfall into Red Ridge or Duskwood. Heck, with the changes that might bring me to 60 there. Then either Outlands or Northrend depending on that change

I would recommend BM myself - like a melee spec, you can do the whole rotation while moving without any dps loss.

You queue for a dungeon when you’re bored - or when you’re a dps(if you wanted to). It allows you to quest while you wait for it to pop which is usually around 10-30 minutes depending on the level range.

But yes from my own experience you get more xp/h just questing than doing dungeons. This is especially true 80-110, you really shouldn’t be doing dungeons. Fast flying and questing nets you a LOT of experience.

It’s tough tho, if you have a few friends you could possibly blow through dungeons much faster than a pug would. That might help but if you have war mode on that does NOT affect dungeon experience(or random award) at all.

Yeah, as others said, questing’s the way to go. What with all the dungeon nerfs (like removal of bonus objective rewards).

Although I do like to queue for dungeons to take a break from questing every now and again.
