Assuming heirlooms with enchants, which one is faster? Has anyone tested this?
Prolly enhance just due to being melee and not having to cast but lvling is so trivial it doesn’t really make much of a difference what spec/class you play.
It really is even without heirlooms.
Enhance is more fun since you don’t have to stop to stand and cast. You can keep moving and smashing stuff.
Enhance doesn’t require water breaks. With elemental you can kill stuff in 1-3 hits fairly easily from 1 all the way to 50. At that point it starts to get a little tougher and you’ll be relying on your pet and hopefully mage water at that point - it will slow down drastically. Resto isn’t really much different, levelling you’ll do fairly similar damage to elemental because your lightning bolts are automatically more powerful and stuff dies quickly anyway, but you had the added benefit of being able to keep your elemental alive as a short duration tank and pretty much solo anything. It’s a little slower for aoe and elites, but it’s easier to stay alive.
Enhancement doesn’t really struggle with the staying alive part as much, as long as you pop Earth ele + lust to burst down big targets before your ele dies, and it’s far cheaper than having to buy water or find a mage - with less downtime.
AOE grinded as ele.
Zero water breaks
Zero down time
Mount up
Pull adds
Use your tool kit to aoe adds down
Collect loot
Rinse
Repeat
You can do the same with enhance and to a lesser degree resto (you can pull more but killing takes longer)
I’d recommend leveling with the spec you plan on playing at max level so you can get a feel for the toolkit & build some muscle memory for your abilities. Or, if you don’t know which one you’re gonna play, swap between them every few levels to see which one feels best to you.
I have already played all 3 specs at max level, but I’m thinking about making another one with a different race, so I wanted to know what was the best method. I leveled my current 60 a while ago so things are probably different.
No you didn’t. By the time you get enough maelstrom spamming Chain Lightning without Stormkeeper to get one Earthquake you are already dead.
I tried Ele and found it clunky and slow af while leveling. Enh is miles better.

They all say hello. If you are face tanking mobs and just standing there spamming CL into EQ and crying when you die then it is clearly a “Get Gud Kid” moment.
After the first pull you shouldn’t be 0 maelstrom. And if you need to training wheel yourself and only kill one mob at a time until you have enough maelstrom before you mass pull then do so.
Just because “you” can’t does not mean it can’t be done.
Then stop trying to funnel for an eq and instead kite things with shocks and build for lava bursts.
Between earthbind, tstorm, cap totem, and frost shock with zero cooldown…you should be able to kite 3 mobs easily.
If you are just leveling, you can even take the lvl 15 talent that passively shoots earth spikes as a way to have outdoing dmg while kiting.
Taking on 3 enemies at once shouldn’t be tough.
Step 1: stormbringer if it’s up
Step 2: lava burst enemy one instantly followed by a flame shock to get the crit
Step 3: Instantly stormkeeper CL (first enemy should be dead)
Step 4: Second CL on same target if not dead or 2nd target
Step 5: Thunderstorm then away and immediately earthbind between yourself and enemies
Step 6: lava burst and flame shock enemy 2 which should be dead
Step 7: frost shock enemy 3 and start kiting a bit
Step 8: cap totem in the path of enemy 3 while frost shocking to ensure it stuns
Step 9: lava burst and flame shock again (enemy 3 should be dead)
All of this can be done once every minute. Then as you get more comfortable you can start adding enemies and circle kiting around earthquakes and flame shock surges.
Its just a preferance thing. Totally preference.
Enhance feels very hollow early on. A lot of waiting around for weak abilities to come off CD.
I think resto is actually the best before 30 or so. Then elemental gets better and is fine through to end game. Enhancement also is fine until end game.
It really comes down to melee vs ranged and casting vs slapping.
Resto was nerfed pre 30. Not sure how it affected the leveling exp but it was quite substantial.
I’ll try to find the post if I have time.
ShamanGeneral[With regional restarts] Chain Heal healing reduced by 7%.Restoration[With regional restarts] The bonus damage for choosing the Restoration Shaman specialization has been lowered to 15% (was 40%). At level 37, this value increases back to 40%.
Yeah, I was noticing that ele was doing almost as much damage as ele in low lvl BGs. Resto used to do nearly twice the dmg.
Maybe forget resto, ele gives you earth shock.
