It’s relative, since ilvl is still based on item quality.
Put another way, two max level characters, one with full 8/8 myth track gear and one with all 8/8 veteran gear will be different ilvl after the 20th like they are today. The gap will be smaller though, numerically, but power difference will be close to the same. Or at least that’s the intention.
That’s the key part, but we know every time they do any kind of squish, we always end up weaker and not able to solo content we could before the squish, then told by Blizz and their shills, just wait until the expansion, level up, get some raid gear and it will be fine.
If you mean that pre-TWW content is getting harder, that was identified in the beta but I’m not sure if they’re doing anything about it. Really all they need to do there is improve the multipliers you get in older content to make up the difference. Whether they will is a whole other thing.
If you mean for current content, it will probably be a little different, but they tend to err on the side of making things slightly easier. It just comes down to mob tuning.
I still can’t believe they decided to do the stat squish in the middle of the trilogy. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to do it with the War Within? This way we feel the gradual power increase over the course of the trilogy instead of getting power, being nerfed to crap, only to regain power.
The relative jumps are the same, but that’s not the same as the squish from TWW gear to Midnight gear.
The leveling campaing on Beta was handing out 214 greens. My level 728 pally was squished to 170, but my 664 mage was only squished to 160. You should test this out on Beta or PTR for yourself (my observations were from Beta and could have been adjusted on the PTR).
Based on what I saw and assuming it’s linear the squish is on this line: New iLvl = 0.15625 x Old iLvl + 56.25
Don’t forget to tally how many posters “joined the forum on 20-Jan-2026” and have a post count < 10!
I’d really love for them to stop showing post counts on the forums. Either someone doesn’t have enough posts or they have too many posts. So they’re either belittled or dismissed for being new/an alt… or they’re insulted as having no life or something is mentally wrong if they have too many posts.
Blizz won’t fix it, I’ve seen this in WoD with the first stat squish, and again in SL with the level squish, Blizz never fixed it, they and their shills just said to get some high level raid gear and it will be fine. So unless you are a heroic or mythic raider, prepare to wait until probably near the end of the expansion to get close to where you are now pre-squish.
I think that’s the one thing that’s annoying me through this whole thing. Blizz does have the tech to amp up our damage in older xpacs. Its why my Frostfire Bolt on this mage hits around 200k in current content, but hits for well over a million in anything Legion and older. Blizz has the tech in place to fix this issue, but idk why they’re not turning it on for at least the BfA and SL xpacs since they’re already in legacy mode.
