Leveled 60-70 healing as Ele sham in Timewalking

Only once had a tank complain that I was chain pulling mobs. And also only once had someone die (to the quill chanenl-cast of the bird boss).

Guy in my guild thinks its bannable to do a dungeon as dps while queued as healer. Is it? I’m succeeding at the role of healer (keeping everyone alive) and putting out far more dps while Ele spec.

It’s not. You can tank as DPS too.

I think no on it being bannable. I’ve been in many of these groups over the years, and generally DPS end up having to blow more GCDs on defensives and self heals, making it arguable that the group is moving slower. I would ask why not just queue as DPS, but I know you’re doing this for shorter queue times. Personally, I think it’s a selfish tactic on your part, but you do you.

Timewalking doesnt have any major mechanics thatll kill someone without healer specific utility like magic dispells so theres no reason you have to be heal spec as long as you can keep up with the thorough-put requirments.

If people are dying though cause you just wanna dps and not heal while taking the spot then it can be a problem and you should expect a vote kick if the group brings it up and you dont switch No one wants an extra repair bill cause you wont do the job you signed up for.
Dont think its bannable because the group could just kick you, its not like youre holding them hostage

If I were the tank, I would’ve just left.

No, it’s just disrespectful to others to do what you were doing.

It’s called preventative healing!

I leveled as pres in TW recently but let me tell you I was a DPS. Nobody needed healing, I was spending at least 90% of globals doing DPS or cc. Then 100% when I figured out fire breath heals people every now and again and the living flame on ST enemy will heal four of the friendlies after each fire breath (if I charge it to rank 4)

It’s way faster because i’m pumpin meters and healing stream / earth shield passively heal anyone who needs it. Cap totem and Earth ele for large pulls. Nobody in danger.

It’s less about being able to pull it off and more about circumventing the queue time as DPS. Healer queues are short because there are fewer healers out there, so let the few that are out there take those spots.

This is false-ish.

The bird in Skyreach is more than capable of killing during quillstorm or w/e it is called and the 2nd boss in Grimrail is quite capable of murdering people standing in his fire (not his barrage itself though it silences when hitting so that doesn’t help). Presumably the last boss in SMV can probably kill if you dont kill a skele and move through the wall of death but he never lives long enough for that to even be a potential factor.

But yes TWing is quite free and a real healbot healer is nothing but dead weight and should be made to be a battle healer at least…but honestly even debating it with them isn’t even worth the time since it’s just faster to do the dungeon in 5ish mins and let them be the carry they long to be.

No. I do it all the time. At most, you’re at risk of the group vote kicking you. But I can toss enough heals in DPS spec that nobody kicks me or complains.

Timewalking is a complete joke right now. A vast majority of TW does no damage and mobs have very little hp.

Even when I was a DPS, I couldn’t DPS much because everything was dead after a few casts.

It’s not bannable, no. And as long as you’re not griefing people, I don’t think people would care anyway.

Luckily the timewalking dungeons are quite nice and simple these days. Most tanks probably don’t even need a healer I sure don’t. I do see people die in skyreach on the bird boss quite often if it doesn’t die quick enough. Grimrail has bugged fire damage on the way to last boss, most people will die in 2 stacks. But beside that not much healing will be required unless the tank does some crazy big pulls.

I do prefer easier tw as it means queue times will be low for dps. I sure don’t want to see 15-20 minute queues because they’re terrible like some rare occasions in the past.

In timewalking, not really. Due to the scaling, the healing from hybrids (ele, balance, dev for example) are one heal to full. And can dps like crazy at the same time.

Ran 4/5 with a Dev Evoker as my healer on my warrior. Perfectly smooth.

A what?

Yes, really. Because myself and others I know absolutely feel that way. You may not, which is fine. But the point is find out if the group is okay with it before undermining the tank and the rest of the group.

It’s not bannable but it makes you a jerk imo. Just as bad as tanks running in DPS spec.

LMAO

No. Guy in your guild is delusional.

Not bannable. I don’t tend to like people doing it, but in certain situations I find it to be in extremely poor taste. Queuing for LFR as a healer for CTA and playing as DPS instead is one of those situations. Especially for fights like Fyrakk where you need healers dispelling constantly, there’s already healers that don’t dispel like they’re supposed to be and having one less person who can actually dispel magic can be brutal for LFR. The other situation is when it is clear you can not fulfill the role you signed up for in a different spec. If you were wiping constantly and refused to switch, yeah, no. But that doesn’t seem to have been the case for you, so it is what it is.

To be fair, you don’t really need to heal in Timewalking. I’ve levelled a Resto druid and Disc priest through Timewalking this week and 90% of my time was spent DPSing. Off-healing from a DPS class would be perfectly sufficient to complete dungeons without any issues.
