Level Warlock or Hunter?

Hunter is super fun but bugged and doesn’t seem like a great class in the long term… I’m thinking in terms of dungeons, raiding, and battleground PvP btw.

Hunters can do any content and are great in pvp plus if you’re having a super fun time why even consider switching

i have a 50 lock

It really just comes down to one main question.

Do you want to name your pet?

Yes -> Hunter

No -> Warlock

Played both. Hunter is MUCH more fun. Warlock is boring to the point of being painful. However, Warlock is objectively better in PvP and PvE–especially late game. Also Warlock’s are more needed/wanted in raids.

Warlock… Hunter… These are funny ways to spell Warrior.

both are fun and survivable

but nothing beats free mount at 40

We dont have to buy any ammo.

Hunters my more preferred playstyle.

I think you know what you want deep down.

Tbh when I started classic i kept saying I want this but it’s not good at this. I wanna play this cause it’s op, but I don’t like this aspect of it.

When I finally stopped caring about min/maxing and what is best in this or that, and I started focusing on what matters most, what feels the best and what is most fun, I never looked back. Currently leveling a hunter of both horde and alliance.

You know what you want, just play it. Screw what everyone else says, in a few years no one will be min maxing, ppl will be looking to do weird things like 40man Druid raids or 40 man shaman raids etc. classic isn’t going anywhere, we are just at a time where people are stuck on min max, that time will pass

Warlocks are more valuable for raids.

I loved my hunter in Vanilla, obviously running a lock now.

Personally playing this lock is the most fun i’ve ever had playing wow. A lot of what made hunters fun for me back in the day was the pets. I had that wolf that did shadow damage before they nerfed it. It was also a ton of fun looking for pets to tame and following rumors on rares that had interesting abilities and stats. That whole mechanic got removed. Paired with buggy FD mechanics right now i’d say they’re pretty lackluster.

Warlocks are top tier in most situations. Blatantly broken in PVP, but there’s not a whole lot of them and raids require 3. It makes gearing is way easier than Hunters. Also there’s a ton of viable specs for warlocks, conflag for deep fire 1 shots, sm/ruin for raid corruption/instant shadowbolt spam, SL for 1v1 brokeness. In PVE you can even go super imp after BWL comes out, and demo sac if you don’t want to deal with a pet. There’s also a ton of variation of those specs.

You can also do a lot more wpvp shenanigans with a lock, like fearing people after they jump into the lava to get into MC as well as fearing people into packs of mobs while they’re farming/leveling.

Locks also have a ton of utility that makes them wanted everywhere, like summoning/healthstones/soulstones.

You can also switch between different pets when you’re getting bored of your current playstyle, paired with the multiple viable specs allows for a lot more variation than a hunter.

I almost never see people who main locks switching to another class, but I see many hunters switching their mains after they finish leveling an alt. With how scaling will effect both their power levels, i think objectively your best bet is Warlock.

That being said, you will have a very hard time playing another caster if you try lock. Not having to worry about mana is so convenient, and the playstyle so smooth, that it often makes other mana classes feel unplayable. Just a warning.

Ever try to cast Shadowburn without a soul shard (ammo)? Don’t have to buy it but still gotta farm it

Been a lock since the beginning thru thick and thin. Leveled a hunter on retail to max then shelved them and went back to lock. Just better all around class with more variety and utility.

I really like my Warlock. Pretty self reliant where some classes you need help with more stuff.

If you PvP either is a fine choice. Warlock better though

Hunters are a dime a dozen. Warlocks are far more rare. If you want to have less competition in getting in MC/ony pugs or a raid guild, go with warlock. If you want to have 6+ others of your class in a pug MC raid, go with hunter

Not to mention warlocks actually have a role in MC, unlike hunters (other than 1 boss)

Pvp-wise both perform pretty similarly. Hunter might have a slight edge for BG pvp due to frost trap’s usefulness

A lock will probably have a much higher impact in a bg than a hunter. Spammable CC, higher burst, better pet utility, SS, Healthstones, curses. You’ll probably have both in a BG regardless though, purely for utility reasons.

Mage.

Hunters are mechanically pretty broken right now esp with fd+trap not working properly.

And … to compare hunter to a pvp god S tier lock is not even fair.

But … hey … If you want to do 0 dps bwl + in pve you should def go hunter.

Hunters are literally C tier bg toons while locks are S tier … don’t know where you are getting this “both perform similarly” none sense. Oh and after bwl hunter dps is literally on par with smite spam priest dps so there’s that.

Make both (obviously make the lock first).

Hunter is so easy and laidback to level.
