Level squish

I haven’t seen too much discussion about the upcoming level squish.
Why is this abomination about to happen? I feel like I have years of wasted effort. I hate Ion even more so now!

“We” have not been asking for this forever, I wish people would stop using that word.
I personally don’t care THAT much, and I also don’t think a NEW player going from 1-120 would be daunting, personally if I joined a game that had a ton of content and levels I’d know I had a lot of fun game time ahead. The rest of us who’ve played the levels and leveled alts know where things get boring, the quests are the same etc and hence we might think so many levels is daunting, but a new player wouldn’t think that, or not most new players anyway.

My bigger problem is the change in the zone leveling. I like leveling through most zones when I make a new alt, I think it’s kind of weird that you would have to pick just one expansion and level there. I wonder how easy it will be to jump from expansion to expansion to get a taste of all of them, instead of just picking one. Need more info of course, but so far I’m not impressed with the leveling plans that seem to be coming. /shrug

Who is this “we” because I have not. Do you have player polling to back up who this “we” is

You have the same access to Google that I do.

I’m sorry that there always needs to be someone who’s upset about common sense design decisions such as not infinitely increasing the level cap with each expansion but it is what it is.

  • Each level is meaningless. With a squish, we’ll get something with every level- be that an ability or a talent, etc.

  • There are too many BG/dungeon brackets pre-cap and it’s upheaving queue times.

  • Getting to endgame takes too long and making it longer and longer with each expansion is not sustainable.

What about this is bad? You just like looking at big numbers or what?

It’s the only thing that’s making me disappointed about the new expansion. Reverting back the levels to 60 defeats the purpose of a RPG. I’ve tolerated the item squishes but squishing the levels is a totally different thing. The game is definitely not going to be the same.

How exactly is leveling going to make sense now? I heard that we could just stay in a single expansion and level to 40 or 50. It feels like they’re just catering to the people who think level cap is the only way to play this game.

When exactly are we going to start using flying mounts then? At level 10 or something? If they are making all of the expansions scale to your level, they should just remove Pathfinder for the past expansions.

It is bad. With the scaling all the new player has to be is scaled up for the proper expansion. The new player picks the expansion they want then they are leveled to expansions starting level. Bingo problem solved. There is no need to take our levels away or make us feel like we have just wasted years of our lives, and the loss of our achievements. This is just another way for Ion to remove flying from the game.

You have years of wasted effort every expansion. So if thats your worry you should have quit long ago.

Whose ready to run scarlet monastery library 4 times just to advance a single level? I know I am… /s

At least with a lot of levels it felt like you were advancing at a decent pace. “Oh Avenging Wrath is at level 80? I’m at level 70, I’ll be there in a couple hours!” versus, “Oh, Avenging Wrath is at level 50? I’m at 49, I’ll be there in a couple hours!”

Its all an illusion. This changes nothing except now its going to be like watching paint dry every level.

Getting to endgame is estimated to be 60-70% faster after the squish.

Having fewer brackets leveling isn’t going to feel like an illusion. It’ll feel like you can actually get queues to pop.

My only concern with a level squish is a power loss for our characters. If we can still do everything at 50 that we do at 120, then I am okay with changing the numbers. The number alone don’t mean much.

maybe that is the flaw? People want to get to endgame because of the perks of being at max level. Here is a novel Idea. Why not just open up all the perks of max level to day one?

I guarantee you that is a lie. It will take the same time roughly, if not longer. Boosts are a thing still. Blizzard does what Blizzard wants. How long did they do that ridiculous 7.3 leveling slog before they reverted it?

Pvp will benefit. Thats about it.

How did you just go from not wanting to reduce the number of levels to effectively removing levels entirely? Do you even know what you want at this juncture?

I mean, it was on the slide during their presentation. Do you have any basis whatsoever for this guarantee of yours?

That is my fear too. It feels like we work and grind so hard to attain our levels and then to have that all taken away.

Well,

Blizzard still believes that leveling is “too slow”. That´s why they make the changes, to give raiders easier access to endgame. On the road they forget new players and altoholics.

I will certainly be annoyed if I can no longer run transmog runs during leveling phase. It´s such a crucial part of the game for me, to get my TBC pally into Vanilla raids or my Warlock into WOD. If this now becomes a level 60 only thing, it´s GG for me.

It also feels weird not having to play through all the story, I don´t raid, so I don´t need to rush to max level.
Oh well, just not my expansion I guess, been 15 years of WOW. :frowning:

Depends what you mean. It will be annoying, you’ll have to do mechanics, certain encounters that have one shot abilities (I’m looking at you Terrace of Endless Spring) will be near impossible to do.

I’m not thoroughly convinced that we’ll be able to breeze through any old raids at 60 either. I just don’t see it happening.

Ahhh but what about those of us that do not do dungeons or raids? This is a slap in our faces and I think you know that.
