I personally don’t like it. Again it is something being taken away from the player. A band-aid to a bigger issue that is not going to be solved to by it. Every time they try something to solve to issue of dealing with old content and bringing newer people into the game to have them enjoy it. They have failed and at the same time, largely failed at making the older crew of players enjoy old content any more better than what they already had been.
For me in many cases they made old content and leveling through it worse. So yes, I fear this will be no different. A lot of change for nothing.
This would be crucial for Cataclysm as Deepholm literally requires flight, and they are so large and expansive because you can fly in each zone from the start.
Its one of those things that some scrub intern suggests and the wise old people of the team go… no… we aren’t doing that.
It’ll make the problems of the stat squish like a day in the park.
You simply cannot change a core mechanic that the entire game depends on(level) and has been built around, and not break everything. You’ll be chasing your tail on 15 million problems you didn’t expect for years as you constantly play whack-a-mole.
Essentially its like replacing the cornerstone of the building, and in turn trying to prevent collapse. But hey… I’M SURE IT’LL BE GREAT Hulk Thumbs up!
I predict it will feel just as bad as when they squished professions.
Retail has felt more punishing than fun during BfA and vision is gone.
In the new expansion everything will just be a scaling sandbox… until you want to get to 60 (lol).
I don’t think it’s a bad idea exactly, I just think it will be poorly implemented by the people who are currently in charge.
I keep going over in my mind the last 15 years I’ve spent in the game, and I’ve just kind of realized the moment patch 9 hits, my character will lose 70 levels in an instant.
Encompassing the entire expansions of:
The Burning Crusade
Wrath of the Lich King
Cataclysm
Mists of Pandaria
Warlords of Draenor
Legion
Battle for Azeroth
All erased. All accomplishments gone.
Ion said it himself, right there on the stage in front of tens of thousands, that this is an MMORPG.
And now they are doing something that you NEVER DO in an MMORPG.
This squish is great for new players, no doubt about that, but it’s not great for this 15 year veteran.
Now when is the Achievement Point System squish coming? Volley, you have 27,000 Achievement points–that’s too many, it’s time to squish it. We need to make it easier for new players to compare their points to yours.
Not sure if new players will like this “squish” at all. They will miss out so much of the story, they will become level 50 in a few hours and wonder “is that it?”.
HDRO tried this, it failed so massive.
Exactly. It´s the entitled raid culture, that doesn´t want to level in an MMORPG. They prefer playing the game like a shooter, hit a button, enter a map and get loot. No char progression wanted.
They must remove a lot of things from the old world and expansions, as there are certain things we need. Pathfinder, Class quests that unlock skills or lore, profession patterns…
Looks like a new Cata removal show to me. Better farm things now, because they will all be gone soon.
Blizzard always takes things from us, I just don´t understand why.
I already do that. But I do it throughout the entire game for each of my multitude of alts. From what I’m reading, we get a choice of exactly one expansion to level through. This is not how I play–or want to play.
I’ll see how things actually are once people are able to play the Beta and/or PTR. If my characters still have the option to go wherever they want throughout the entire World of Warcraft, I might be able to stomach this change.
I think its an incredibly narrow minded approach. Blizzard has gone too far with their ‘less is more’ approach of removing features and functionality from their players. Removing levels is like telling me all the work I have done is for nothing.
I’m honestly thinking of putting this game down for good.
I’d have to agree. If what they’re saying is true, then you do the starting area, and one expansion of your choice, then you hit 50. At the same time, missing out on so much story and narrative content. For new players, you get to Shadowlands, and wonder, who was this “Lich King” they’re talking about? Oh yeah, he was the main villain in the WOTLK expansion, said an established veteran of the game. Who is Sylvanas (eg. if they are Alliance)? Etc, etc.
Then a lot of those areas are going to feel pretty empty. No real reason to go back there, aside from leveling characters or professions.
I don’t think you understand how this is really going to change the leveling experience.
I’m actually going to be able to get all the loremaster achievements with alts now. That’s pretty cool. Abermus here will play through Burning Crusade content from 10-50. Maybe I have an alt named Bermusa that will go 10-50 in Wrath of the Lich King content. Perhaps I roll an alt named Ermusab after that, and decide to get the loremaster achievement for Cataclysm content.
Musaber being my next alt’s name is probably the one thing you would have guessed incorrectly, because yep, I’m sending that boy out to play through the Mists of Pandaria expansion. All of it. Not just the Jade Forest.
If you are a brand new player who has no clue of Warcraft then going lets say from MoP straight to Shadowlands it will be confusing
Like what happened to Garrosh after MoP?? Explained in Wod (Skipped)
Whose is this Lich king ?? Explained in Wotlk (Skipped)
In the current one at-least there are more branches till you hit BFA
So basically you are telling the player to go back to figure it out or read up . That is a poor new player experience as it is not laided out clearly from beginning .
