Level squish

This character was a 60 twink for years. After the squish I became level 25. The problem is MC as well as all level 60 raids of old now require 30+ to enter. And now I have a thunderfury equipped at 25 that’s less than 1/3 of the strength of the level 30 version… also have a sulfuron hammer and I can’t get the eye for it anymore.

The advice I’ve seen from others is recommending you level to 30 and then get the new gear. I believe there may be communities or guilds that do old content at level 30 as well?

When your level 60 was squished to 25, that did lock you out of some raids since Molten Core now requires a level 30+ character to enter. Leynia has some great advice as well!

At your current level, you are correct in that the Eye of Sulfuras is no longer farmable at your current level since that requires a level 30+ character. When the squish happened, there were a few edge cases that slipped through. However, this isn’t anything CS can fix nor can they do anything about it.

You’d be better off posting this in Bug Report or using the in-game suggestion tool so that your feedback gets in front of people who can make the changes if needed.

Yea but I already did the work for thunderfury and it’s unique. seems like an oversight getting squished too low. 2 different versions of the same legendary feels terrible when you have the bad one. I’d have to not only level up, but be fortunate enough to refarm the bindings and delete my current TF, and I don’t even know if you can do thunderfury twice on one character

edit you can’t do the thunderfury quest twice, so guess I’m just stuck with the dollar store version of TF, feels bad

It could certainly be an oversight! With that said, there really isn’t anything CS can do about it since it was a development decision and CS does not have any input on the game’s direction.

You could put in a Bug Report so that QA could take a look or use the In-Game Suggestion and Feedback Tool. Note: The article does state you can post on the community forums, but that refers to any of the other forums besides the Support forums (with the exception of Bug Reports).

Yeah I completely understand where you’re coming from. My brother farmed off and on for years to finally get the binding to drop. He wasn’t doing it for a twink or anything, just trying to get it just to say he has it since it’s something he’s been trying to get since literally vanilla. So I understand the pain of not wanting to farm it up again even if you could (and like you mention, you literally can’t on the same character).

I would post this over on the bug forums and/or make a suggestion since I’m sure you’re not the only one in this situation. And I agree, it should either scale up or be exchangable to the appropriate item level as a “one of a kind” item per character, or somehow allow you to repeat the quest to obtain it. Hopefully they will make a change to allow either of those in the future, but for now the best you can do it put in a bug report or suggestion.

I feel like the devs changing level 30 to being the minimum for raids while level 60 being level-squished down to 25 was not an an actual oversight: it was just a known consequence of their plan for 60 to be the new cap post-squish going into Shadowlands. Pre-squish level 60s and level 70s (post-squish 27) both got cut off from being able to do content they had been able to since Vanilla/TBC because Blizzard decided 120 was going to get squished down to 50 instead of just cut in half to 60 because they decided 60 was going to be the cap you had to level to instead of where you were going to start after the squish.

If 120 had become 60 (which would have been the more logical choice, IMO, but to me it seemed they wanted to in some way capture the nostalgia of leveling towards 60 going into SL so 50 was chosen to push max level players down to), then pre-squish 60s would have become level 30, which would make the new level 30 minimum for raids make sense. But, that’s not what they chose to do, and even though pre-patch 60s becoming level 25s cut those of us who enjoyed level 60 xp-off characters (me, especially from when the Alterac Valley bracket was still 51-60) out of the raid content, it does make perfect sense that they are 25 and not 30 because 25 (pre-squish 60) was still half of new cap post-squish of 50 (pre-squish 110). The problem was that they moved the raid (and heroics and flight training etc.) down to a minimum that was instead of being based on half the post-squish levels, were instead based on half of the original levels: 30 instead of 25. That makes sense that it’d be 30 when the new cap in SL was 60 and likely was the intended outcome and not an oversight. But, it doesn’t align with the function they used for character level squish. Also, flight was originally locked to requiring level 30, except for those characters who already had it who were now between 25 and 29 post-squish that had it grandfathered in (except druids initially with flight form: it simply no longer would let you switch to flight form until they went back and fixed that weeks later).

You can try putting in bug reports, but I’m pretty sure it was an intended consequence that 30 was the minimum for raids to align with 60 being the original, except there was also a decision made that 50 would be the level 120 squish level so that threw off pre-squish level 60s (and 70s) in terms of where they ended up (25, 27) after the squish.

It’s not fun that you can’t get the eye of sulfuras now. I sat on my old 60s and 70s who were dropped to 25s and 27s from the squish until the anniversary event at the end of last year. My xp-off characters are all on a 2nd account that I no longer play since the very beginning of SL (mainly because of the issue you are mentioning: the squish locking them out of raids though I also was already playing them a lot less anyways because of the 7.3.5 scaling); however, after much waffling on whether to do it, I leveled most of them to 30 there except I forgot to finish getting there on my warlock who is now 26. You can try putting in bug reports, but I’m not sure they would help because I think the levels and entrace restrictions ended up where they planned them to end up.

If you do go to 30, your grandfathered-in items will still be scaled for level 25 (but, at least the scaling in not nearlly as poor as it was immediately after the squish: they are less useless now after a couple of iterations of scaling ilvl changes). So, you’d have to farm gear again to be where you should be at 30 instead of having the lower ilvl versions from 25.

For me, I just leveled them to 30 during the anniversary and left them without doing anything more. :dracthyr_shrug: Three of them here (2 pre-squish 60s then 25s now 30s, the other was originally a 70) so I can at least show that I at least share some of your frustration even if I don’t think their’s any solution beyond leveling (even if it doesn’t feel right because current 30s were originally 80s):
