What tf is a level squish and why did it happen?? I’m kind of a new-ish player, I began playing Wow as a kid during Cataclysm-Mists of Pandaria and stopped playing shortly before Warlords of Draenor dropped and started playing again recently. Soon as I got back on after making a new account I noticed that even if you were high level in a starting area the mobs would be the same level on you. At first I was annoyed by this but I ignored it. Now they have a level squish. WHY?? who in blizzard thought this was a good idea in any way and why did it happen?? at first I thought it was temporary and they did it to help with the servers crashing or something but people are telling me its permanent??? If I wanted the level cap to be 60 I would just play classic. This is total BS. Blizzard you have officially ruined the game for me with this stupid decision. AND i’ve been looking through forums and it seems like everyone is content with this? Why? They have ruined leveling in this game. What ever happened to traveling to a new area just because it had a specific level set that was slightly higher than the next and now everything is like level 24-27??? Who’s idea was this???
Edit: I appreciate all the community feedback to help me understand why this has happened. Not trolling, just a semi-new player trying to understand

The squish is really good in my opinion. Trim the fat. Make things more efficient and streamlined. Faster leveling. And it just looks nicer. Levels over 100 looks silly, imo.

It totally ruins the leveling process and removes the need to adventure into new zones. It’s a totally ridiculous move on their part after adding a 10+ level cap every new expansion FOR YEARS. They just took a big steaming dump on their own game.

Man imagine making a new character cause you wanna try wow and someone tells you that you have to level up to 130. It’s for new player retention and the ease of actual leveling is for veteran retention lol

Welcome to Blizzard style of play, squish reset and recycle that way they can just play the same monsters with new names and call it an expansion. The game is about making money they lack the talent to make a new set in the game.

Overall it makes the game easier to get into and play; and honestly, what was the “value” of having to go from 1 to 120 to get to end game content? It was pure time sink.
Now the game allows you to do as many leveling runs as you like, but not be obligated to a 2 week nightmare of irrelevant content to get to end game.

With them making SL max level 60, they are falling into the same trap they always have. There is no need to make the expansion max levels +10, you only need 5 levels.
It is just a sad state of development when you have to make stat and level squishes in back to back expansions because you can not design a game using a power creep.

Well, we’re going to have to agree to disagree. I think this is one of the best moves Blizz has done for this game.

It means you don’t have to go 5-10 levels without getting any new spells or talents. Now everytime you ding you get some new piece of your class

The levelling squish has absolutely no effect whatsoever on your played experience except that it changes the order of magnitude of the numbers.
Do you really care if you are hitting for 100 on a mob that has 10,000 hitpoints, or hitting for 10,000 on a mob that has 1,000,000 hitpoints? It’s the same only with fewer zeroes. All the zones have been adjusted accordingly.

Thats world of warcraft though??? it’s about grinding through leveling and dungeons, going into new areas to level and to experience the environment and learn about the lore. If anything this screws over new players even more because you’re not even obligated to go into new undiscovered zones to level up some more. That’s what this game is about. Its total backtracking on blizzard’s part. and what about the people who bought level boosts?? Is blizzard just giving them the finger or what??

I have 9 120’s. The speed is 3 times faster at minimum

I meant in that only having the level cap at 50-60 aren’t they screwing over people who have bought/used level boosts?? i understand now that the stats are almost the same just with “fewer zeroes” as one player mentioned but isn’t this screwing people over now?? Isn’t it easier to level to 50 with fewer levels and removes a lot of the obligation to enter new zones and grind?? all of the zones are pretty much the same now its ridiculous

As someone with like 4 or 5 boosts… nah, Max level is max level. That’s what got paid for. If I want to go check out different zones, I can do that any time I want.

Most people just got the level boosts for free with their pre-orders tbh
and if someone did buy them straight up
I cannot articulate enough how much those people DO NOT like leveling lol. They most likely don’t care

They have totally ruined their own game and screwed over developers who put a lot of time and effort into the different zones because nobody is obligated to travel from zone to zone to level. Maybe the Wow player base would stop dropping like flies if blizzard cared about their fans instead of the money in their wallets.

I don’t really know what part of obligations are fun. I like it as a whole, glad you’re in the minority.
Edit:
I bought boosts because I hated levelling. I’m pretty down with the new system.

While I understand the purpose the squish and support it… there are some kinks to work out. Losing some of my abilities when they squished me to 50 on some toons was very un-fun.
I’m hoping they smooth things out.
