Professions, abilities, danger, milestones like the old class quests, accomplishments to aim for early on…
I could list more, but I just woke up. That’s off the top of my head, changing the scaling of the entire game to reduce a three digit number is stupid and pointless.
Scaling at level cap is the dumbest thing ever. I get what they were trying to do with zone scaling, but at cap it’s just dumb.
How people feel when they play the game or do content is what makes people stay or quit.
Why do you think they need to keep going back to ‘fix’ things with leveling since 7.3.5. It isn’t because so many people are enjoying that content as it is now. But hey, keep telling yourself it has benefited the game and people are happy with it.
The game I like to play isn’t “end game”. The game I like to play is leveling up my characters through the world. Even though Blizzard screwed it all up by destroying quest and story lines, and removed most of my feeling of progression by scaling most things, I still have fun with all my characters.
“Old” content can be made more relevant for max characters through phasing and world quests like the current warfront zones. It doesn’t have to be destroyed by scaling everything for leveling characters.
Different people enjoy(ed) different things about WoW. I don’t see why my way of enjoying the game is less important than those who only want to reach end game asap. And I don’t see why I should be happy about losing all the levels I’ve earned just because some folks don’t care about anything before end game and want to just remove it all.
There is already the option to boost one’s characters and skip everything if you don’t want to do it. I love leveling. It isn’t a grind to me. It’s why I play the game. That, and seeing my numbers go up.
I aspired to be level 200 one day. When the squish comes, this will no longer be the game I was playing. I can’t see my way past that. I fear I’ll join the ranks of the millions who finally gave up on WoW, and that makes me very, very unhappy.
Seriously, they spent this amount of time and resources on leveling content I would literally quit tomorrow and find another game. Because that would be the last signal I would need to tell me this game would never get any better.
Most people playing want a solid end game not to be playing all this bs stuff leveling up which many people will actually never do again.
This actually reads like another game out there. There are plenty of MMOs that are all about the leveling and very little end game. Not sure why people who want to spend so much time leveling decided to pick this one and not those.
Sounds a little like ESO, without the so called paragon type system added in
The numbers really don’t matter if the scaling and systems in place just become more jumbled and unbalanced than they currently are. If they did undergo the similar ESO type system they would have to completely rework the profession system so that the items made have relavant stats to whatever level you make them at(which most would prefer I think). Make every expansion scaling to each level so that the player could choose there own path to Max level. And have endgame gear be set bonuses to use per encounter, which makes everything relavant (going to need bigger bags though lol).
The biggest problem with all this is they have given no communication about the plans other than a squish. They basically through a survey out that offered no insight into the plans, other than a drastic number change.
The only thing they came close to talking about, is not seeing power gains and flashes of achieving power when you ding. If that’s the problem bring back spell rankings. You can flash all kinds of spells and numbers up there per level to show they gained something. The problem is all the readjustments they keep making without a core streamlined process, just quick fix it keep going mentality.
Anyway hope they communicate more information on plans and really do it right there are so many ways to address this. But it can’t be done with a band-aid quick fix. It is a 15yr old game after all
I wonder if people are anti-levels because they don’t like leveling. I don’t like farming WQs for rep can we get a rep squish too?
These two quotes combined
Make “special” tricky. I’m all about efficiency, so if they listen to my feedback it’ll likely be entirely different than someone who cares about lore and story.
Made the weight of the story irrelevant considering how boring it is at level 60 to experience the same Westfall storyline for the umpteenth time.
Literally destroyed the idea of gaining a sense of progression since you can level in a place like Westfall at level 10 and then still have them being a formidable (relatively, since there’s no challenge in overworld mobs anymore) foe at level 60.
You can do things like Stormwind Stockades at level 20 and at level 60 and get scaled rewards when Stormwind Stockades isn’t nearly as daunting as a fantastic dungeon like Dire Maul or BRD is.
I’m neither in support or against the level squish yet. We have NO idea what’ll be going along with this squish. If they don’t change the talent system or experience gains, it’ll be even worse.
I’d be worried if they did this just as a ploy to get the community heated up about something.
If I were a significant community figure like yourself, I’d worry how the community felt about a change, because that impacts the game greatly.
It’s such a cool number though. Fact is we as players should have gotten an elite dragon on our portraits and they should have made a huge deal about it but instead we got um…nothing.
But yeah I too had a fascination with Level 100. Hehe
Not everyone is obsessed with endgame. Some people actually enjoy leveling or doing things like professions more. No more levels would be a huge turnoff for many people, including myself.
They need to add content to older zones to keep them relevant whether it be sending us back while doing quests in current expansion, adding new quest lines, adding events similar to invasions, adding WQs, etc.
Scaling, level squish and the like are just bandaids that do nothing to address the underlining problem with leveling which is people find it boring and stale. They need to stop removing things too as it leaves huge gaps sometimes. People should want to do each expansion, not skip over them.
I actually hate the RPG cliche that there’s only 100 levels. I remember when I played star ocean for the first time and leveled past 99. I was like “wtf is happening”
I’m not on board either, especially when they just throw out a questionnaire with massive announcements concealed within.
Something needs to happen though, but how do you make something fun you’ve already seen and done and have all the t-shirts, many times over?
Surely the only solution here is to replace the original content, but then new players miss out, how many new players are we talking about? Who knows? I feel that dynamic content is the way to go. Also Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms are most definitely still big enough to adds tons of new content to spice up the old world without taking anything away from the original content.
I think that Blizz has made it clear lately that they really don’t like to have to worry about professions and almost pretty much couldn’t care less about them.
So it seems logical that as part of the level squish, they’d remove professions altogether and change the name of the game from World of WarCraft to World of WarGrind.
