Level squish is a terrible idea

They broke the #1 MMORPG rule of never taking away player’s levels.

Level squish is a great idea.

They are not taking any levels from you. They are just changing the scale.

If you change from 86°F to 30°C you didn’t lose any temperature.

Blizz wants to fix the sense of progression. No actual progress will be lost

There is no sense of progression and there won’t be.

The numbers bring back a lot of nostalgic feelings and which zones players got those levels.

Completely removing old WoW quest and replacing them with Cataclysm quests was a mistake for that reason, and there was nothing to make nostalgic players come back to the game until Classic came out.

They are repeating the same mistake here so players won’t come back once they’re gone.

Please find me the rule book in which it states that this is the no.1 rule.

It’s a horrible idea that goes against the very core of mmorpg.

Not to mention Blizzard is probably one of the most incompetent companies when it comes to quality control, both times they tried squishing things a lot of crap broke and it took them a long time to fix it and both times they were far less “serious” than actual level squishes, imagine how bad it’ll be. They simply can’t manage something like this without screwing something up.

Making players come back isnt the goal its an incentive for new players to come into the game. Hey new player do you to grind 120 levels to begin playing with friends or would you prefer 60? For those of us playing now we lose nothing its no different to the itm lvl stat squish but for a new player its allot

I don’t see anything being lost. 120 levels is daunting for new players, and it’s impossible to give each of those a meaningful sense of progression. It will work to the betterment of the games design

Instead of remembering the zone you leveled through 40-60 in, you can now remember it as where you leveled 25-30 in. Nothing lost, really

Eve, days of old, even the first mmorpg dungeons and dragons all have had lvl squishes and did it hurt them. The answer is no and these are all mmo’s older than wow so to say its a core feature and a mistake against the genre is just false

I actually don’t have to, there’s enough chicken little posters with crystal balls here to tell everyone…

Just to be clear, I don’t actually care if such a rule exists. Gauge your success based on what you’ve actually learned! That carries more weight than some number.
Draw on the fact that you’re undoubtedly a better player than you where!

Damn you foreigners and your funny number systems!

I can’t comprehend why people are in such a fuss about the level squish. It does absolutely NOTHING to game play other then conveniently shortening how long it takes to get to current content (and yes this is confirmed seeing as they said it will shorten leveling time 1-50 as in 1-120 by about 60%).
At this point, levels are literally just numbers by your character portrait. They hold no bearing on actual player progression seeing as any REAL progression doesn’t even start until cap anyway.

Edit: And to add, it is a lot more enticing for new players to come to the game. Which by the way is what Blizzard wants and frankly you should to. New players means more revenue means more content (at least its supposed to but I’m not going to get into that right now).

  1. nostalgia

  2. fond memories of where you got the levels and the expansions you played over the years

It’s a give and take.

I was annoyed with the idea of another squish, but when they said they would put all existing expansions on the same level and let us pick and chose which one to level through I was intrigued.

Then I started planning which one of my Allied races would do which expansion and lost the desire to be irritated.

They could put all the expansions on the same level and let us choose without level squish

But you still have those memories? No one can take them away from you friend.
And if you really want nostalgia, keep playing Classic. Retail needs to adjust, theres no question about it. They can’t just keep tacking on more levels. It’s already at the point where leveling a new character is a MAJOR chore, to the point that people are BUYING level boosts just because its a pain. I’m more partial to the thought that instead of buying boosts, I can actually have fun leveling in for one zones i like, and two do it in a reasonable amount of time.

I don’t mind the idea, I think it’s a pretty good one. I can’t imagine a new player coming in and seeing 120 levels, it must be intimidating. Where does it end? It’s just a number sure, but when you throw in each level actually meaning more I am sold on the idea.

It’s gonna be interesting for sure, I look forward to it.
