Level 70 Time Walking and New Player Leveling

Lately, I’ve been introducing some friends to World of Warcraft, and it’s proven more challenging than I anticipated. They’re curious about the game’s lore and its progression, and honestly, it’s tough to offer a comprehensive explanation while tackling mundane quests like slaying 10 rats or some other repetitive quest. My thought is to introduce a leveling system akin to time walking, but tailored for new players. Instead of choosing a specific expansion, this system would guide players through all expansions, raids, and dungeons, incorporating cinematics from classic to Dragonflight. The focus would be on content relevant to WoW’s storyline, allowing players to collect mounts, transmogs (like Raid Finder gear), and achievements along the way while also indulging in epic cinematics and relevant content. These experiences could be shared in groups mainly comprised of players, even with a limited number, supplemented by AI players to maintain a dynamic experience during the raids and or dungeons. For some of the content that does not require raids or dungeons, a list of people that are working on the same line of progression that I am would be very helpful and would promote the old style of game play that is also found in the new hardcore mode. (Although i recognize that is more out of necessity) The Bronze Dragonflight could serve as guides, leading us chronologically through WoW’s history, offering new players a captivating introduction to the game’s narrative. The content as it is now could be left the way it is, but this new layer could be a very attractive way to get people invested into the game.

There is so much to wow that gets over looked with the release of a new expansion. Its a shame that such good content (and some questionable *staring at shadowlands) gets overlooked. It is become very popular for games to reboot old content, this would be a fantastic opportunity for blizzard to try something a little different while staying true to the game.

In TWW, I"d like to see “in a nutshell” scenarios or short quest chains that get new players at 1 players caught up.

After completing each level of the “catch up” questlines, the rewards are:

  • Enough exp to get to the top of the tier (10, 20, etc.)
  • A piece of blue-quality level-appropriate gear
  • Some gold and some profession supplies
  • A free mount / flying mount and level-appropriate riding skill

Here are the catch-up vignette tiers:

1-10 Exile’s Reach
11-20 Classic Express Tour
21-30 Burning Crusade Cliff Notes
31-35 Wrath of The Lich King Mini
36-40 Micro-Cataclysm
41-45 Sierra Mists of Pandaria
46-50 Warlordlets of Draenor
51-55 Legionette
56-60 Scuffle for Azeroth
61-65 Shadelands
66-70 Whelplingflight

Total time: 3-4 hours tops.

Then BOOM – you’re caught up and ready for TWW.

I think it would be really cool if it were like a class room setting. The best comparison I can think of is the magic school bus. haha Where as you were completing each segment a talking head of the bronze dragon flight would show up and tell you the who, what, where , when and and whys of what is going on as you relived these memories in an order that makes the most sense. I think one could even do it from a “horde perspective” and an “alliance perspective”.

Oooh, or like the plays that you do in Ardenweald, where people dress up as historical figures and you do them as mini-scenarios!

I remember playing my first mmo and the mobs I fought, which happened to be small snakes and crabs in a swamp. It was quite magical and very long ago.

The people I talked to who tried the game for the first time(wow) found it way too confusing. I think classic is the better option than retail.
