There are thousands of people across all of the servers who have to wait hours to play a game they are already paying for monthly. There are time investments in characters on specific servers already, hundreds of hours in some cases. So players have 3 options currently:
-
do nothing, continue to wait in 2-4 hour queues, be unable to participate in your guild activities, and effectively change the entire game.
-
Stop playing all together and cancel your subscription, ending all of the time you have already sunk into your account and character, and losing return on investment for the past months you have already paid to play.
-
Pay them $25 per character to move to a different server to enjoy the game in any capacity that is considered acceptable or normal.
Every time somebody picks option 3 because of the inability to play due to increased player volume, and blizzard charging them to do so, is an example of a company taking the current situation and using it to their financial advantage. They are putting a service behind a paywall that in the current climate has become essential to just participate or enjoy the game in any kind of casual fashion. Additionally, due to a massive increase in people both not working, and working from home, the true people punished by Blizzardâs lack of action are the once who at this time deserve the most support. Any individual who is still required to leave the house to preform an essential service for their country are the once who are unable to âbeat the queueâ by logging in hours earlier than needed to play. Its a mild inconvenience for somebody working from home to fire up the game at 4:00 and run around Stormwind every 20ish minutes until 8:00. Itâs just not an option for the health care workers, police officers, essential government personnel, grocery store employees, and the dozens of other required fields to operate during this pandemic. Those individuals are the ones that this inaction hurts. Those are the people who are being the most negatively effected. They are exploiting their player base, specifically those that need the most support in this time, for financial gain as a direct result of the conditions caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. The solution is simple. Identify faction imbalanced medium or lower population servers and allow the high population servers to transfer if they are joining the lower represented faction. Set caps on how many people can join one server or another. If thatâs not possible, just allow a week of free transfers off of high population servers, and close destination servers that are even in population. Every company in the country is taking steps to adjust to the new situation and how it is affecting everyone in the world. Blizzard is burying their head in the sand while their bank account grows and grows. Itâs irresponsible and predatory and they should be ashamed from their lack of action on this front.
