Lets talk Enchnting - Self Found

Rage Page Warning.

Yes yes I know that this is “Self Found” but all you Warriors can go poke things with your sharp swords whiles leveling blacksmithing,or you hunters can make armor while leveling leather-working, etc.

I absolutely HATE that enchanting is completely useless in Self-Found mode (aside from the one time I early grinded Tailoring/Enchanting to up to the greater Magic wand then swapped to Mining/Blacksmithing. Aside from that, all of the other leveling gear in enchanting is completely useless. I ALWAYS, even during vanilla, hated the fact that enchanters relied so heavily upon Blacksmiths. NO OTHER PROFESSION relies this heavily on another profession. Yes, crafted have matts from other professions, sure. I am fine with that…

But to bar complete progression of a profession during Self-Found is absurd. Yea yea I know many of you non mages/priests will act like you have a mage/priest and will say crap like “I did it just fine” yadda yadda.

All h8ers aside. This is how I feel. My main mage from the beginning was always Tailoring/Enchanting. I hate the fact that, I cannot level enchanting in Self-Found while leveling my character. That I am FORCED to wait until close to level 60 just to start seriously leveling Enchanting. Literally making 95% of all enchanting recipes USELESS, unless they are used specifically for leveling to 300.

Again. this is my perspective, based upon the facts provided. I believe that, just like ALL other professions, Enchanting should not rely on blacksmiths to level. Said it from the beginning, however, now that I am tying Self-Found, I absolutely HATE that @Blizzard hasn’t made a workaround for this yet.

My mage is Tailoring/Enchanting. and I want to level (because that is what I like) Tailoring/Enchanting, AS I LEVEL MY CHARACTER. not when it is useless anymore at level 60, cause then I am done. I want to enjoy the hardcore Self-Found as my character, and not be FORCED to choose Mining/Blacksmithing and grind that out until near end game just to level enchanting.

@Blizzard Some of your posts suggest that you are open to making this a change. Please do. Make it more appealing for players who like clothies to not be forced to grind out and fight for mining nodes/Blacksmithing just to eventually get a chance to use enchanting. it’s logically idiotic. Check your databases and tell us how many Self-Found players, level 1-59 (proably lv 20-59) that actually have enchanting. I would love to know this statistic.

P.S. I know that people swap to enchanting at level 60 because it is the best for raiding. However, I don’t plan on raiding. I am here for the fun of leveling “MY” mage. Any my mage, in my heart, is always Tailoring/Enchanting.

End Rage, Thank you for reading.

enchanting is a great profession for SF HC. you just can’t level it up very far :expressionless: great for getting a wand fast though.

don’t you get it OP. you have to change the way you perceive things. not every profession has to be easy or even possible in SF HC. that’s the beauty of the mode. how unique and novel it is. things like “any profession i choose should be able to level to 300” are not taken as givens here.

I’m leveling a mage too, and she is herb/alch. It’s very fun.

You aren’t forced to do any of that. SF is a choice and all the consequences of the choice are known up front.

You also have the option of just doing it yourself. There’s no reward or title for putting turning on the Self-Found limitation, so just make a character that isn’t SF, buy your rods from the AH, and limit yourself to all other aspects of SF. Self Found is really a personal challenge anyway, so if you don’t like one of the rules, just don’t follow that one rule.

If you really want Blizzard to act on your proposal, I wouldn’t hold your breath. Era is a niche; HC is a niche of Era; SF is a niche of HC; and the enchanting issue is a niche of SF. Fixing the issue would be a really low impact use of resources AND it would upset a lot of players even if it doesn’t directly impact them. Just look at druid polearms for an example.

Good luck on your campaign, though. Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest if you get what you want, so more power to you.

Before we got HC servers and a SF mode I was a big advocate for trade vendors.

With fishing and farming chests in the over world and even certain mobs you could get tradeskill items.

My idea was to add trade vendors to cities where you could trade in mats you’ve collected in for items of other professions.

In this case for example turning iron ore you got from the miners in Deadmines in for an iron rod from the blacksmith vendor. And so on and so forth.

why add in artificial trading for a mode that purposefully restricts trading :expressionless:

Good point.

Sounds like you’d have the most fun by leveling Tailoring/Enchanting without the SF restriction, why not just do that?

You could even self-impose it other than the blacksmithing rods if that’s what you prefer.

EDIT: It is ridiculous to think Blizzard should add a workaround to support a community-created play style. Just create your own ruleset, and ‘play’/enjoy the game.

It’s supposed to be fun!

Hardcore is hardcore, self-found is self-found for a reason.

If you want every ‘Quality of Life’ giveaway, play retail.

What is your next request? That is unfair that you can die at 59 and they should allow resurrection (Or pay for it)?

ps. You are not FORCED into anything.

People so crazy with this whole #nochange train that they actually made themselves believe that there is no issue with SF eliminating entire profession. You can clearly tell that this game wasn’t designed around SF gameplay. Why are you going to sit here and act like it was? I feel like on SF characters, professions accommodate said game MODE.

Your choosing to go a solo path, thats a choice, the game wasn’t designed to work that way, and it shouldn’t be altered to do that. It also has nothing to do with #nochanges. To be honest if we added changes, the professions should be updated to be more meaningful but require even more coordination between players no less. For example any plate armor should require tailoring.

Disagree and it would remove any challenge from leveling SF Enchanting. What would be the difference from SF and standard play if your proposed changes were implemented? I don’t see any difference besides replacing the AH with an NPC. Believe it or not some players enjoy the challenge of SF. It seems you just want the SF buff but really in practice you simply want to play standard. Really it’s a personal challenge, SF is, and for the most part players are not judgmental if you choose SF or not.

Instead of watering down existing challenges, I think additional challenges should be added to accommodate the playstyle that you elude to in this post. Perhaps a duo-found or guild-found mode, or account-found mode? I think you are on to something but editing SF is not the answer.
