I have been playing around with beta and find that I can level a gnome mage to 6 in just under 45 minutes. At this point I leave the starting area and really really want a wand.
Is it realistic to make one’s own wand at server start or should I either just grind the mage through to level ~15 and do a wand quest at the lighthouse in westfall? I can conjure water but that is a lot more sitting and drinking from 6 to 15 compared to be able to finish off a mob with wand and ready to pull the next.
leatherworking/skinning seems to be the way you would go about trying to get early server wand making. The question is, is it worth it vs just doing without a wand?
I want to keep up with the leveling wave, if not out front with the hunters, at least in the middle of the front pack.
if you are going wand leveling, just white wand off a vendor

well my mind doesn’t know if early is late depending so any time its available
get one off an enchanter, the mats aren’t hard to come by, might have to trade a trash green for it

Yes, you can easily go tailoring and enchanting, then farm linen and craft low level greens to DE and craft a wand.
If you aren’t trying to stay ahead of the pack while leveling, you will probably see the crafted wands everywhere on the AH.

I really don’t think there will be any wands on the auction house for at least 4 hours or so unless some guild/streamer just funnels mats to one person.
The vendor wand isn’t usable til lvl 15. At that point you could have just quested for 1.
As for being able to make 1 yourself, that is possible but highly dependent on how lucky you are with drops.

Enchanters make low level wands. They will be all over the auction house. Just go buy one.

Find an enchanter and trade him 2 greens. He’ll gladly make it for you.

You make level 6 in 45 min after the game launches, how many enchanters will there be by then?
60 linen cloth with tailoring/enchanting will get you a wand or you can wait and some one will be selling them by the time youre lvl 8
There should be a bunch on the AH shortly after launch for pretty cheap.
Make an enchanter or make friends with one. Or buy one. There was someone handing out wands from their enchanting skill in Brill during the stress test.
Going to be leveling double mage, so maybe we can work out a pull pattern where we don’t have to have a wand right away. We can alternate frostbolt and then one can melee and regen while the other finishes the mob off or something…
Train lw/skinning in goldshire kill boars (which will give xp at the same time) til you can make enough to get to 40-45 lw making light leather, light armor patches and a few of the first greens. Drop lw train enchanting disenchant the lw green to get enough mats to make lvl 5 wand.
Lesser mage want, lvl 5. Need 10 enchanting, you need one lesser essence and a piece of wood.
At that point drop skinning for tailoring. By the time you need a new wand you should be able to craft one from tailoring/disenchanting.
It’s possible the stress tests got us in that 1-15 mindset, where an early wand helps so much for casters.
But the big picture might be, just level hard, drinking a lot or not, the first day or two and then the wand issue isn’t really much of an issue at all.
At least with a mage you have that endless water supply.

i go for around 7.5 and a few hours.
If you’re trying to be fast at launch, do the quest one imo.
If not, there will be enchanters who can make them for a tip likely.
