I’m not sorry for saying this because it needs to be said. Precognition is a HORRIBLE bandaid fix to a much larger problem.
You designed the talent for casters to TRY and give us something to work with against all the interruption in the game instead of actually fixing the problem. The problem, is literally an elephant in the room that EVERYONE knows about, there’s too much bloody CRAP in the game.
Yeah so you juke a melee kick and you get 4 seconds of total cc/kick immunity, woohoo. Yeah man, it sucks, why? Because while yes, you get to cast, your casts done while the buff is up are irrelevant because there’s so many short cd abilities that render the casts ineffective, a couple just being grounding, impending victory, anti magic shield, and reflects. Not to mention if you’re fighting a DK (which with the current state of the game, most of the time, you are) they can just death grip you and stop your cast, they also have spellwarden which needs a fat nerf, so good luck casting anyways. Theres also the matter of you have to stand still to actually TRY those casts, and that just leaves you vulnerable to a melee apes pve rotation, and you really cannot take that dmg. Tbh precog does more harm than good because sometimes youre just forced into having to use a bigger cd of your own BECAUSE you had to try and get that cast off.
Yeah precog lets you cast, but you see above why its not even that great. There’s also the fact that just because you get precog, doesnt make you immortal, you still take a truck load of dmg, which as a caster you really cant afford to be doing anymore. You’re always having to run and for good reason. IDK I honestly just think precog was just a bad decision for a band-aid fix to a much larger problem that they wont try and do anything about, all because “class design philosophy” and your class design philosophy sucks, it makes the game honestly just feel flat out miserable, everybody and their mom has everything. Melee have endless mobility for no reason, busted and overtuned dmg, and ridiculous self healing
no dude, dont buff casters… Nerf melee mobility and get rid of a lot of the cc in the game that doesnt need to exist, theres too much crap man. Casters dont need buffs, crap just needs to be removed that never shouldve been put in the game to start with
Giving up an entire PvP talent for a chance to outplay someone doesn’t feel great, it feels better on some classes, especially the ones that can combo it with another immunity but still not great.
sounds like the same old destro vs dk/warrior. nothing has changed it has always been this way. just need to find a partner that can peel for u and do a ton of free casted dmg like a mage or shadowpriest
Back in the day we had the kit to deal with these things though, and we simply don’t anymore. We’ve lost basically everything that helped us against this, and what we didn’t lose got rendered nothing short of worthless because of the amount of short CD gap closers there are. Seduce isn’t spammable anymore, we don’t have blood horror so we can’t pre-horror a go, we don’t have KJs Cunning, so we can’t cast and move, we also have instant Shadowfury and we don’t have ember tap anymore either. Literally our whole kit for dealing with this sort of thing got taken away from us and it’s seriously been felt
I think they should make precog baseline for casters. If necessary, maybe nerf it a little bit, but the idea of juking/faking casts definitely adds to the game IMO. As a PVP talent there are just always better options so it never gets taken.
lets please try to remove juking not make it an intended playstyle, i for one hate wasting gcds or cast time, think its much better to give every caster multiple schools to cast from or other options like fistweaving
every single casted CD (arcane surge, void eruption, dark ascension, tyrant, etc) should become instant if blizzard isnt gonna tone down melee uptime.
having to take two different pvp talents because melee are so disgustingly oppressive is not fun or enjoyable. this is disregarding the current meta/balance as most casters are in a good spot after all.
Melee mobility has largely proliferated while caster gap creation tools haven’t, or in some cases have gotten worse.
e.g. Boomkin. Melee had less mobility in MoP/WoD, yet boomkin’s Force of Nature root spam was pretty balanced at that time. Today, their toolkit is far more limited in dealing with melee, whose mobility has only grown. It’s backwards.
I guess what I’m saying is bring back Force of Nature roots.
also Precog feels bad as an honor talent because most specs are already jam-packed with pivotal honor talents.
“Nerf melee mobility!” -The class with the ability to teleport, teleport his entire team, pet stun you, insta horrify you, and fear you for 15 seconds.
If you start looking at removing melee mobility, caster mobility has to go down equally. The whole thing is casters create gaps, melee close gaps. If the ability to create gaps is superior, melees can never inflict damage. Zero damage is zero damage.
Apart from instant shadowfury & the seduce cooldown that entire kit was temporary and isn’t the traditional resources destro used to stay valid in arena.
That entire kit is related to the “crap that doesn’t need to exist” bloat you’re referencing. KJC, Blood Horror & ember tap - those were all modern changes to destruction that in their own way watered down what gameplay avenues the class had available. I don’t know which of them I’d pick to keep to stay ahead in the modern mobility arms race. I feel like I just want coil baseline lol.
Pre Mop, the cata toolkit, and ofc before that the wotlk toolkit were all destro needed. That is to say, the only real list for what destruction lost was instant shadowfury, baseline coil, & howl. Destro’s never been a convenient or balanced caster. No dispel protection. Reliance on hardcasting. Devs that don’t understand what makes the spec fun.
Nobody’s gonna say cata destro was strong - but that was more a design problem with removing 5% crit baseline among other things. The toolkit it had was still world class.
need the game to indicate for new/bad players which specs have a gameplay kit that can function if you never juke
nobody should be allowed to accidentally play a spec that is balanced around outplaying your opponent(s) and then complain that they don’t enjoy being required to so outplay
