Let’s talk about raid lockouts. You get into a group, things go sideways—bad comp, bad luck, bad vibes—and now you’re locked out for the week. Why are we punished for something outside of our control?
Bad runs happen, and they suck. But the answer shouldn’t be, “Better luck next week.” MMOs are supposed to be about adapting, improving, and trying again. Instead, lockouts turn one bad night into a full-week (or twice-a-week) penalty. It sucks, is outdated, and prevents people from playing the game as much.
Blizzard, let us keep going after bad runs. Lockouts are stupid, especially on a seasonal server.
I’m sure they could implement a system where after you killed a boss you were ineligible for loot from that boss again until the lockout expired but could participate in the raid repeatedly, allowing you to find other groups to clear the raid if you had bad luck
True but it’s going to be alot harder to find people to join said group. Allowing people to join another raid with no loot oppurtunity from the bosses they killed that lockout would be a more elegant solution.
Ran a BWL this afternoon where the tanks were too stupid to swap the twin drakes… after four attempts. 23 people shouldn’t have to suffer because two are brain dead.
And correct me if im wrong but if someone else from your raid reforms and clears the bosses before you do, you get saved to the cleared raid.
you could reach out to some of your former teammates and see if they want to continue also. that should help since just like you, they are stuck locked.
What they could do is allow you to carry over your lockout into the next week (I think retail does that). So if you got stuck on Huhu, you could extend the lockout and be a Huhu the following week.
You should at least be able to run it as many times as you want for the non-boss loot like recipes, mats, etc. You should only be locked out of individual bosses if you won a roll.
Honestly this. It sucks but we all know beforehand that it’s the risk we take when we join a pug. Everyone deals with the same risk, so it’s a equal playing field. If you make the “lockouts” by boss instead it’s going to throw a wrench into things and change the way business is done.
Lockouts might’ve made sense in 2004, but this is a seasonal server. The whole point is to experiment and keep things fresh, right? A per-boss lockout or allowing reruns for non-boss loot wouldn’t break anything—it’d just let people actually play without being punished for a bad run or helping friends. We’re not talking about handing out loot like candy, just removing outdated mechanics that kill momentum. Why stick to 20-year-old systems when we have the perfect opportunity to try something better?
I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad idea. I just was saying it changes the way people do business is all. Maybe something to reflect on if we are ever actually getting “Classic+”. I’m not for or against the system we have now personally.
Like you said it’s a seasonal server, maybe they could try it for Naxx and see if it works out better or worse for the majority of players.
An example of how it could change things. People could join a run under the current popular SR2 system. They could SR twice a nice drop off the first boss. If it doesn’t drop they could leave, join a new group, and SR other things.
Again not for or against what you’re saying - it just changes the way business is done.
I get your point about how this could change the way people approach raids, but the SR2 system combined with the ability to leave after a boss doesn’t really solve anything—it actually makes the problem worse. If people can just SR something off the first boss, leave if it doesn’t drop, and jump into another group to do the same, it creates a revolving door of raid groups. That kind of system incentivizes selfish behavior and undermines the stability of raid teams.
This issue already happens to some extent under the current system—people bail after a boss or two even with lockouts in place. Changing how lockouts work shouldn’t make that behavior easier; it should address it directly. For example, there could be a partial lockout for leavers that only applies to the bosses they haven’t killed, so they can’t keep hopping between raids.
This is a seasonal server, so it’s the perfect time to experiment. Why not try something like a per-boss lockout or reruns for non-boss loot? But any change needs to discourage abuse of systems like SR2. The focus should be on improving the experience for committed players while minimizing selfish or disruptive behavior. Done right, it could create a healthier raiding environment in the long run.
You just do the loot at the end, then people at least aren’t leaving if their stuff drops. I know what you mean though most groups pass it out at the start.
I agree - maybe do this for Naxx if it’s not gonna be a coding nightmare and see how it goes.
