Let's talk about Devestation Evoker Mastery

To me, this is the worst mastery benefit in the game.

First – when in a key since the Devastation is so burst-y if you do your burst well then you are ripping all the threat away from the tank

Then after that your lose the most damage at the end of the fight. This makes Devastation really unappealing for raids when usually the harder part of the fight is at the end

IMO something much better would be a benefit to essence-consuming powers or empowered powers

I enjoy the mastery but I would trade some off the top to prevent the damage from scaling too low though.

Class needs a fade.

I really dislike Devastations mastery, a reverse execute looks great on paper, but when actually playing with it it creates a very unfun feedback loop, because to the player it doesn’t feel like they are doing bonus damage at the beginning, it feels like they are getting weaker as the fight goes on.

Agreed. The mastery boost at the beginning of the fight just feels like how much damage we do baseline since that’s how it is for literally every other class/spec.

I don’t feel strong in the beginning. I feel weak at the end. The feeling only goes away if I can use dragonrage again at lower % to get back to where I was at the pull.

Instead of decrease through the fight, maybe bonus should reach 0% at 50% hp and then increase back as the hp decrease. More like high - low - high, instead of the current high - low

Perhaps an added effect, whereas the enemy’s health goes down, they deal less damage to the Evoker. So as the fight goes on, Devastation does less damage, but its survivability goes up.

It would get rid of the sense of loss from the Mastery, help with Devastation’s survival issue, and stay in the theme of “giantslaying”.

Maybe dragon rage should be a 1min cd

That would be nice. I would trade the duration extending talents for that.

I like this idea, I’m not sure it would happen but I think it would be great for dps to get more defensive tools. Particularly with all the unseen AOE that ticks in dungeons

It just feels so disappointing the later you get in the fight–especially raids where the boss fights can last over 10 minutes.

Yep. I think it would be fine though if the change in damage from 100% to 0% was not so great. I think the niche evoker has is a cool idea, but the implementation feels terrible.

The other problem with its current iteration is we, at some point will need a fade of some sort because people are already at 100% mastery and it will only increase. Making our burst potential and aggrieved issue worse than they already are.

I sort of wonder if it’s this mastery that hurts in M+. Evoker is doing pretty well in raids, but then really badly in M+, if rankings are to be believed. I think one issue is survivability, which won’t be fixed by the pitiful additions that we’re getting in 10.0.7, but with other classes bursting stuff down, and dragon rage on a 2 min CD, I think we spend too much time fighting mobs that are below 50% health, so we perform poorly overall.

Definitely believe that. I know I make a lot of mistakes myself but there is absolutely zero room for error in the class because we don’t even have a real “oh crap button” and any self heals we have as devo really don’t accomplish much. Especially on a week like this one with Bursting we just die to what feels like nothing even if we assist our healers with helping mitigate ourselves.

Even Evokers DPS rotation is quite punishing, if you mess up a DR extension for any reason then your damage just goes into the toilet, it’s sad because Evoker has glimpses of fun interactive gameplay, but in-between those moments the spec just feels punishing.
