I have noticed some really toxic behavior in-game since the announcement of the Phoenix Wishwing Battle Pet being found by the Secret Discord folks. I am happy to have another pet to pursue but I have witnessed some absolutely toxic behavior especially around the Un’Goro crater. I hope this was not the intention of the developers; to cause rudeness, name-calling, and contention. Courteous rules should apply. If you see someone camping a spot, don’t stand on top of them and spam consecration. Why not see if you can group up with them? When they call you out of the behavior there is no need to get territorial. Just move on or come back later. This is going to be a long grind for everyone that wants the battle pet. There is no sense in being mean and unfriendly in pursuit of the goal. Thank you.
My issue with this is that it is supposed to be fun, with some challenge. Let me make this CLEAR: THIS IS NOT CHALLENGE. This is a slog to get something that has a terrible drop rate. This is not something that Wowhead states, “can be done in several hours”. Try WEEKS. and that is only if you do this grind NONSTOP. Why not make the living blazes drop it too? or Make the Scorching Elementals drop it more than 2% ? Terrible implementation of something that is supposed to be fun.
I agree! Wowhead is really at fault here for misleading the community into believing this can be done on a lazy afternoon. I observed a player that acknowledged they were going for 14 hours straight trying to get all the ash for them and their spouse. This is not healthy behavior! There is no reason to get all the ash in one visit to Un’Goro and especially being really cutthroat and toxic about it. I chatted with another player in game who admitted the event had a negative effect on them. They expressed to me that the event (which is supposed to be fun) changed them in a negative way by making them impatient and grouchy. They dedicated 4 days to the grinding ash. How is that fun?
Inert Phoenix Ash has multiple issues, but everything combined is what makes it frustrating imo. While I was working on completing this step of the secret, not 5 minutes in and someone was already emoting /rude at me. Everything listed below just breeds a toxic environment.
Bottleneck. Collectors are sent to one specific location to complete a step of the secret for the pet. This usually isn’t a problem, but consider the rest.
Two types of mobs spawn at this one location, but only one type drops the item.
Drop rate is relatively low. The layered rng (2 mob types, it’s random which mob will spawn) makes this especially noticeable.
The mobs get one shot by max level toons, making it difficult to tag anything if you’re not quick, or if you have lag, etc.
This all leads to:
The hostile and negative environment that naturally pops up because of everything listed above. Frustrated because you can’t tag anything. Frustrated because whatever you do manage to tag is the wrong thing. Frustrated because you can’t get anything to drop. Frustrated there are others in the area with the same goal and frustrations as you. No one wants to feel like their time is being wasted, but this is kinda what players end up with. And I’ll use the word again, it’s frustrating.
Overall, this specific part of the secret is especially painful and un-fun.
Man oh man did you hit the nail on the head now…took me 6.5 hours to get all the ash I needed from the Crater area and I use an alt on a low pop RP realm to hope too, to do it all…99.9% of the time I was alone there …then there is the other ash you need in the Dragon isle drop and its about as bad of drop rate as the Crater one is.
What would of helped out big time is for both mobs to drop it…they could of added the ash drop to the other mob to drop it too…that would of helped a ton but nope…
Most of us don’t stand a chance. I have been out there for HOURS and can barely get a kill due to a group of toxic alliance players who have been out there for days killing everything before anyone else even gets a chance at killing anything. The drop rate needs to increase and the amount of mobs spawning needs to increase or some people just won’t be able to get the pet until everyone else gets theirs first. Really disappointed.
This is the saddest thing to affect pet collectors in a long time. Idk maybe others in the game are also affected? Does anyone know how we may get the attention of the developers? It would be nice if we could ask them to increase the drop rate of the ash or the respawn of the elementals. Un’Goro is literally a blood bath right now. An event/effort that should otherwise be fun is not fun and creating a terrible in-game experience and toxicity!
They might notice questing toons reporting ash farmers… I encountered a multibox bot on a completely different quest area recently, and wasn’t thrilled.
Has anyone been targeted with annoyance toys while farming the ash in Spires of Arak? I have! Another player released those spiders on me so I would lose control of my character i.e stun/fear/dazed. Then, they set out those dragon eggs from Wrathion and Sabellian which spawns three 3 little dragons that sweep above your head. If you click on one of the dragons you will lose control of your character and miss clicking on the ash.
I would suggest too all try the realm Twisting Nether…I was alone 99.9% of the time on that realm…just make a lvl 50 trial alt on Twisting Nether realm …log into it …take it too Crater, you’ll have all the flight points…once at the crater …make a group in custom lfg …go log onto too your farming with find the group click for invite log back to the alt …accept the invite go back to your main and farm away…I did that for both Crater and Spries too.
What I’m doing. No rush, spend an hour or so a day on the endless ash farming, while lot less competition. Also watch AH prices dropping, as they usually do on this sort of hard-to-get pet.
Being used to Blizzard’s timesink projects, not as bothered as many by the painful farming. Crappy part about this pet quest for me is making us do one of the nastier Raid bosses.
Question, is there any way to unlock the guy you need to speak to on a toon that didn’t do the quest line (when your main one did) or is it individual to each toon? Also is there a way to break down what needs to be farmed and where more simply? The explanations given are very long winded and kinda confusing
All the drops are soulbound…so if you get the item off the Firelands Boss then you will need to finish it up on that character. And in order to talk to the NPC to get the pet you have to have the item you buy from NPC that you buy the item from in the Spries and you have to have him unlocked from doing that area in WoD…its all explained here in wowhead…https://www.wowhead.com/item=193373/phoenix-wishwing#comments
