Let's get it all out

What’s good about the game? I’m thinking of new players thinking of jumping in. So, what is objectively wrong with the game? I’m not asking for annoyance issues but actual game breaking problems.

I mean this topic as something someone new to the game would look at.

What’s wrong with the game? Ahem well… class designs, prunings, warforging and titanforging, Azerite gear and traits, removal of tier sets, time gating, rep gating.

What’s good about BFA is that you only need to spend a few hours a week on it.

Saves a lot of time to use on other things.

That’s the big one and they go hand in hand. We have poor class design due to all the pruning. As a result, leveling is underwhelming, I mean…120 levels and we have 7 talents. Seven. Pair that with the pruning and you can go levels at a time with nothing. It feels bad.

Honestly, I don’t know why they don’t just give us a talent every 10 levels. Most could remain passive like now, but a few could be abilities. At least doing something like that, it could help lesson the effects of pruning. Plus it’d be a nice little boon every 10 levels. As is, most classes basically gain nothing aside from a passive or two, Mastery and a skill or two past level 60(not counting talents). That feels horrible.

I think Warforging was a good concept, getting the +5 bonus occasionally was nice but at the same time it wasn’t game breaking. Titanforging took it too far, though I admit it is nice when it goes in your favor.

Time gating current stuff sucks. Some time gating is okay. Everything, not so much.

Professions need to be fixed. So many are basically worthless and not worth the hassle to level.

Truthfully though, Class Design, Pruning, hell the overall “fun” factor of classes. Fix that and it makes other failings of the game less impactful. But when most classes are a bore to play due to the pruning and laughable class design(as well as the global cooldown) it makes everything you do with that class more tedious.

Like, Azerite Armor wouldn’t be too bad. Provided the GCD changes never happened. But with the low secondary stats(due to Helm/Shoulders/Chest having high stat budgets) and the global cooldown, it makes most classes feel clunky and slow.

I dunno, I just really do feel like, a lot of stuff is tolerable and even pretty good if the classes are fun. But even fun stuff becomes mediocre at best when class gameplay is horrible.

I can’t find anything to do since most of my competitive friends quit. Raiding scene looks neat for next raid, but even my raiding group, mythic + group, and connections have all disintegrated. Mythic + seems less interesting but still great for some people. The mounts and pets added into the game are neat, but a lot of them are just absurd % drops (looking at you island thunderscale) or have a 300 pet charm tag to them. Only class I find even remotely enjoyable to play is survival hunter, and I have no comment for pvp because that is in the ruins without vendors.

There is absolutely no incentive for me to raid if I can just pug heroic and do things that are magnitudes easier and just get lucky to get gear that is on par or even better than the mythic raiders, despite them putting time and effort to get those rewards.

Art is on point. Story is pretty good. Everything else pretty MEH

Actually I think the removal of tier sets was better for the overall health of the game.

I will argue tier sets gave a clear boundary goal whereas rng forgeing is a total loss

I think its going to depend on what the new player is most interested to experience.
Pet collecting and pet battle is different from most other MMO’s and can be fun and challenging.
Mount collecting can be fun and give a sense of accomplishment when you acquire those that are available for you to obtain.

Transmog collecting can be fun so you get to see places you may have never seen before while hunting for your transmog and get to fashion most things you’d like to see on your toon. The trial of style is a fun concept for the transmog competition.

Fishing and other professions can be fun if thats what you’re interested in.

There are many things to draw new people, dependent on what their expectations are.

How so?

It’s just something that was so boring, for example; if you didn’t have your BiS tier set you could be doing bad damage compare to the guy having the 4/6 tier bonus.

Or remember when you could get an insane item from M+ back in Legion, but you can’t equip it? because you would lose that 4/6 set bonus? Now, you could replace whatever item you feel like.

That’s the only positive change they did.

the mobile like, fill the bar, buy gems to speed up the process game play. There really is no feeling of accomplishment because of WF/TF. TBH, wow for me feels like a barbie dress up/collection game void of actual life.

Wait… what??

Talking about the removal of tier sets in BFA.

Back in Legion I can think of only legendaries being the ones with interesting effects that may interfere with the set bonus. But I also remember having to mix 2 sets together for their 2/6 bonuses or even 4/6 and 2/6 and that in on itself seemed interesting and rather fun personally. You could get them in the lowest difficulties if you absolutely had to get them for performance reasons, but there came times where you couldn’t equip clear ilvl upgrades because breaking the sets would be a bigger drawback.

The other positive I find is these sets were class specific armor, class transmog, I do not at all like what they did with Uldir armor being bound to armor type, just not enough variety.

E: I would’ve hoped if they made up their mind to never bring back tier sets to at-least keep class specific transmog. The idea being that if armor drops for you, it changes its appearance to match your class at-least.

Finally, the voice of reason. No need to burn yourself out on this expansion at this early of a point.

Started Day 2 of BFA with my V/H DH. I leveled by queuing for dungeons and bgs, alternating between after every round. Dungeon queues were instant as Vengeance, while BG queues took roughly 3-5 minutes for Havoc. In between that time I worked on fishing and cooking so I wouldn’t have to later on.

I ended up dropping my DH for this DK. I’m pretty close to catching up with the average players HoA and item level. I’ve experience Uldir in normal twice, and RF 3x. I’ll be going to normal a 4th time and possibly heroic for the 1st time this weekend. I’ve done warfronts, incursions, island expedition (1 so far), and even a mythic+ dungeon. I’m just touring all the offerings in this expansion and everyday i’m knocking out everything I set to accomplish in literally 3 hours, sometimes 2!

Tier sets were so good though, if they could do that to Azerite traits would be awesome.

That’s the only good thing about them, they were too fun and too good. Unlike the new traits we got in BFA. boring absorbs or whatever random passive traits.

True.

The good-Drustvar is a beautiful zone with great music and fantastic immersion

The bad-Everything else

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t recommend WoW as it is now to a complete beginner. Anyone hoping for a good MMO leveling experience will only be met with dead zones for the first 110 levels, and I doubt many people are likely to stick that out.
