Lets do some Sharding Math!

Server Cap = 3000 players
Horde to Alliance ratio = 1:1
Sharding on only level 1-12 starting zones.
Each Shard = on average 75 players (50-100)

Alliance = 1500 players
-Dwarf and Gnome: Dun Morogh (40%) = 600 players = 8 Shards Avg
-Human: Elwynn Forest (40%) = 600 players = 8 Shards Avg
-Night Elf: Teldrassil (20%) = 300 players = 4 Shards Avg

Horde = 1500 players
-Forsaken: Tirisfal Glades (40%) = 600 players = 8 Shards Avg
-Orc and Troll: Durotar (40%) = 600 players = 8 Shards Avg
-Tauren: Mulgore (20%) = 300 players = 4 Shards Avg

Average of 15,000 accounts per server = 66.7 Realms required per 1 million accounts. Sit down and wait in the queue. :slight_smile:

This is what I have so far. Anything to add/change?
Let us know.

Server Cap of 3000, will mean they will likely need 330+ servers if only 1 million players play classic.

Little did I know that every single player was logged into the game 24/7.

pvp server tho

Yea let’s do some math. 1 sharding thread with infinite scroll=we don’t need 20 threads of the same topic.

Why would they need sharding if the server cap was 3k?

Did a streamer mention sharding this week or something?

There are no longer “servers”. It’s just a configurable mass pool of players. Blizzard confirmed as much.

Yeah, because Battlenet is run through a cloud now.

I can already feel the dissapointment of getting into classic first day and almost not seeing anny people…

If sharding is used, each shard will definitely have more than 75 people. You can log into Stormrage or another popular server right now and you’ll see anywhere from 120-150 people around the AH in Stormwind.

No that is crz…

What is CRZ? Huh?

Going to have to adjust these ratios some. They always roll Forsaken.

No it’s not, CRZ is when I see players from other realms to make the game seem more full. Hence the name Cross Realm Zones It’s used in old expansion zones and for faction balance in warmode.

Sharding is when there’s a lot of players in one area so the server makes a seperate instance of the same area and splits the players between them so the server doesn’t lag hard or crash.

lol

Horde to alliance ratio: 1=1

How naively cute.

Where do these numbers come from?

They are made up of things devs have said to streamer pod casts about server limts and i assume easy math to help make the OPs point that sharding isnt needed.
