For the last several seasons, the final 1-2 months are more or less the same for me. I wind up sitting on a pile of Valorstones/Flightstones and Crests, with really nothing to spend them on. It would be really nice if we could simply unlock our tier appearances using some of these resources. I think this would be a lot better than hoping you have the right number of catalyst charges and the armor pieces near the end of the season. Making the crests a requirement for this would more or less ensure that we have “earned” the appearance, since you’re just going to upgrade to the next track of gear using the crests.
Make it something ridiculous if you must, just to keep us playing, I don’t care. It sucks looking at heaps of resources that I no longer need and missing tier set appearances that I would love to have.
Additionally, I think it really sucks to be decked out in mythic track gear and queueing up for LFR to hunt for transmog. I really don’t want to be that guy since I can’t help but think that it ruins other people’s experience with the game, but we really don’t have a lot of options if we want to get those appearances.
Transmog is a fantastic time sync to combat the end of season slow down, please consider this.
You can already do this; just gather a bunch of Veteran stuff and you can just upgrade it.
So… it is already in the game?

You would have to waste a lot of catalyst charges throughout the season to do this, and this doesn’t really work that well for heroic/mythic track items.

You were talking about “now” though, and right “now” is towards the end of the season. If you haven’t been using your catalyst charges for gear right now and you are interested in transmog, then use them for that?
What you are saying doesn’t really matter. At the start and midpoint of a season, sure. But then you are busy upgrading your character. If you prioritize transmog above upgrades, then that’s also a moot point; so … at this point in the season, what you are saying is simply just irrelevant.
Just gather Veteran stuff and upgrade it to Normal level, then you get both LFR and Normal transmog.
Hero track can be upgraded to Mythic level and you then get Heroic and Mythic transmog.
I don’t see the problem you are talking about.
Get the season 2 armor pieces now and convert them next season when there is no catalyst cost.

Just save the gear at the ilvls you’ll need, and the catalyst is free for s2 gear in s3.
But you can’t upgrade the pieces the following season. So you’d need an entire veteran set and champion set to unlock those looks.
They should bring back weekly charges, at least by mid-season.
They could do this, but I think they want to maintain stones and crests being used solely to upgrade items, rather than being used for secondary things like transmogs.

why still have a catalyst cost its beyond me , the first 4 weeks i can understand , but after that point …it should be free.
