I get that the overarching point is to get us into Shadowlands and to 60 faster, but it’s currently a bit jarring for players that want to finish what they were doing.

You can go back and finish it. The point is to remove you from the time walking experience, to prevent abuse from higher level players.

In simple words, your special time is up, but you still have time to go back.
