My hunter is a GOBLIN. With GUNS. And MECHANICAL PETS. If she sees an eagle trying to help, she’s going to do what any respectable goblin would do and try to shoot it. We could make a mini game out of it. You know, for fun.
All the gun-toting goblins in Undermine, how many of them are using eagles? Exactly. Get rid of it.

As is one of mine. So is my mechagnome hunter. Between the stupid eagle and the hero talent trees their whole identity has just been obliterated. They’ve made such a mess of this class.

They did say they are going to add more flavor options in the future. At the same time why are role players so bad at it? Adjust your rp to the events in the game. You’ve got a eagle buddy right now, build a story around it. Shooting it is lazy af and makes no sense. If you wanna rp then rp.

There will certainly be glyphs or customization to change the eagle to be something else, would love to have a drone.
Besides undermine shows goblins are capable of handling animals…… mostly. Surprised its mostly hyenas though, whats up with that
So to paraphrase, you’re saying just use my imagination to make this okay. That’s literally the laziest perspective possible.
I do NOT have an eagle buddy. The eagle is unwanted and giving every hunter an eagle during a patch filled with goblin gun users who don’t have to worry about eagles is wild.
And customizations? I’m glad those were “mentioned.” Where are they? When are they coming? Let me take a guess. Probably not this season, probably not this year, if ever.

An rper that thinks using their imagination is lazy. Interesting.
These are opinions. You are entitled to yours but please don’t mistake them with facts.
Get hired to develop. You seem to think you are better at it than the current employees. Show us how it is done.
There wasn’t much of a lore backround for hunters except some elven archery stuff so they based the hero specs off of iconic hunter and hunter like characters since from the start they have failed to really give a rich lore to hunters. It’s all scraps just pulled together and they latch onto some abilities and claim its iconic when they probably made most of it up.
If I wanted a hero spec to choose I’d choose John J. Keeshan. He may not be the standard hunter (few of them aren’t standard alread) But if you needed someone tracked and found he was your man.

But the eagle is in and out so quick though…even faster than a famous goblin Hunter was.
To me, hunters were much like warriors. In that it is essentially a job anyone can do. Sure there was always some semi-magical element to them with how they can tame animals, and their “aspect” abilities. But it was always very neutral and explainable as pure skill and intuition. There didn’t need to be any specific rich lore for them like paladins or druids. Which left them a blank slate for us to apply our own particular RP to. Which is why now the highly specific hero talents have upset so many people.
In the D&D perspective, not just any one who takes up a weapon is a Warrior. A levy trooper or a militiaman is not a true Warrior. Each race has their own traditions of arms. It’s also the same way with Hunters. Not just anyone embraces the natural world and specifically that which is beyond civilization. Humans couldn’t be Hunters for a good while, same as Forsaken. Gnomes longer so. It was a very secretive thing when Gnomes could be Hunters in Legion. Before that happened, we assumed that no urban-oriented race can be a Hunter.
The introductory class trainer letter that existed in the older versions of WoW was actually pretty good. And it was different with each race. To my surprise, I was shocked that tauren actually preferred the gun over the bow and arrow…
I suppose you’re right. Its been such a long time since ive done those old quests with the intro letter. Not so much a blank slate as I remember. In either case though, the highly specific things they’ve added like the eagle and the hero specs still bug me because they just don’t mesh with most races. Still I’m trying not to let them bother me so much these past couple of days and focus just on the gameplay and not the fantasy. Sentinel on my goblin and mechagnome hunters, ill just pretend I’m throwing some high tech arcane bomb.

Role play is all about using your imagination. Role play in a video game is about using your imagination within the confines of the barriers in place. You’ll either learn to adapt or you won’t. The game won’t adapt to your role play.
Unless you want to go the unofficial route… le lenny face
When did I say I was an rper? Based on you supplying this information about me on your own I can probably assume anything I write will be intentionally twisted by you. I’ll leave it at this: Gun-users and mechanical themes are represented consistently throughout the lore, without eagles. I connect with that and want to experience the game world through that lens. Saying my goblin hunter would shoot the eagle was hyperbole to illustrate how out of place this animal is with not only the theme of my character, but the theme of the current patch.
It is not an opinion that gun toting goblins in the Undermined patch don’t have eagles and that the current approach to mm does not fully support the themes represented in this patch.
Thank you for this non contribution to the conversation. Perhaps you should be hired to develop instead. Those problem solving skills are perfect for middle management.
To be fair reworking a spec during a new content launch doesn’t mean the spec has to follow the theme of that content.
The bird was picked because it follows their idea with spotters mark which was their new interaction selling point for the spec rework. And a lot games associate birds with archery ex: Quinn from League of Legends who in game actually has exactly MM Spotters Mark as her ability
But we have mechanical/undead birds in game so surely they will create a glyph that allows you to swap models regardless
SIMPLE SOLUTION:
the eagle poops out bombs.
boom.

Are you really under the impression that Blizzard is doing class and spec balance based around YOUR theme of YOUR character? LOL. What is it like having an ego like that?
I’m not at all under that impression. I am under the impression that Blizzard has a consistent history with incorporating current themes into how players play the game. This shows up in allied races, new classes, etc. Remember Dragonflight? When we got the Emerald Dream patch druids got even more druid forms. Very thematically consistent. How absurd would it be to see all these npcs in the game fulfilling this druid/nature theme and your druid’s rotation is forced to fire a gun or drop bombs? Flip the situation, and we have gun-toting goblin mm hunters in Undermine and their goofy eagle.
That would be amazing
